Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

28BLACK NOW ENERGY IS A MATTER OF TASTE 28BLACK is different - refreshingly different in taste. 28BLACK is natural - pure and without artificial ingredients. 28BLACK stands for a new generation of energy drinks. No taurine. No artificial flavors. No artificial colors. No preservatives. Nothing synthetic means no synthetic taste. Pure energy. Purely natural. Selective, health-conscious consumers who have otherwise been skeptical of energy drinks now have a choice, and they're choosing 28BLACK. While 28BLACK has a nearly equal share of men and women in its consumer base, the defined target group of 28BLACK is still distinctly different from the rest: 28BLACK is for those who think and work creatively. 28BLACK is for those who need additional energy during their hectic everyday city life. For those going out to party. For those who have a progressive sense of style and whose social and work schedules find them without enough time in the day. With 28BLACK the day now has 28 hours. Four hours more for creativity, socializing, and all the rest an average day doesn't allow. 28WHITE PLEASURE WITHOUT REGRETS. The only true alternative to 28BLACK? 28WHITE. Five calories per can. Just like 28BLACK, 28WHITE delivers natural energy and premium taste, again with no taurine, no artificial flavors, no artificial color, and no preservatives. And on top of that 28WHITE is sugar-free.

28 White Sugar Free

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Diet; Container: 8 oz can
BevNET Review: 28 White is the sugar free variety of the brand. Instead, the drink is sweetened with a three sweetener blend of aspartame, ace-k, and sucralose, which results in a decent amount of sweetness and a mild amount of sweetener aftertaste. From a flavor perspective, this product tastes more like a berry flavored drink than something that deserves the tag “acai premium drink.” That’s at least partially the result of not using acai juice in the product (there is acai extract), but also the result of the sweeteners, which make the fruit flavor taste bitter rather than sweet (as it does in 28 black). Functionally, the product has B vitamins, Vitamin C, amino acids, 80mg of caffeine (we’re not sure why they list it as 32mg per 100ml), and coenzyme Q10. They don’t do a great job of explaining why a consumer should want this, instead, which leaves the chic looking packaging to sell the product. As far as the look goes, it certainly catches the eye, but it’s not clear what the brand name is on first glance due to the size of the text. Overall, decent taste and cool looking package, but it would benefit from a bit more substance in both branding and what’s inside the can.Reviewed on: 2/23/2010

28 Black

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 8.4 oz Can
BevNET Review: Billed as an “acai premium drink”, 28 Black is, with its 80mg of caffeine per can, more of an energy drink than anything else. From a flavor perspective, the product has a flavor that we’d describe as “tart berry” than something as specific as acai. To that extent, calling this a premium drink might make consumers expect something that’s heavy on acai flavor. Regardless of what it’s called, it’s still very pleasing to drink, with a sugar sweetened mixture that’s well balanced. There’s just the right amount of tart fruit flavor to go with the level of sweetness in the drink, while a mild bite and a mellow amount of carbonation round things out. From a functional point of view, the product has B vitamins, Vitamin C, amino acids, 80mg of caffeine (we’re not sure why they list it as 32mg per 100ml), and coenzyme Q10. So, as far as energy drinks go, this product is definitely a good one. On the outside, we like the use of a matte black 8 ounce can. A minimalist design and black, silver, and gold color scheme make for something that catches the eye. However, we think that they’ve taken minimalism to a bit of an extreme, especially when it comes to figuring out what the brand name of the product is and what it’s for. Nit picking aside, this is a very enjoyable and well executed product.Reviewed on: 2/23/2010
