Inferno

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 24 oz PET
BevNET Review: Rage Inferno is a 24 ounce energy drink that was designed to look like a fire extinguisher. Inside the bottle, there’s a fairly pleasant-tasting fruit punch-flavored energy drink, although it’s definitely a flavor that we’ve had before in other energy drinks. On the energy front, the product has 375 mg of caffeine in a 24 oz. package, so it definitely packs some serious punch. Really though, the design of the bottle is definitely the most unique part about this product, although it’s more of a gimmick than a useful innovation. The bottle itself has a pretty standard look, aside from the raised “R” on the top portion of the bottle. The “spout” is a nonfunctional piece of plastic that has been mounted on top of a flat black cap. The spout is quite easy to knock off, which might make for them being removed (intentionally or unintentionally) while going through distribution and retail channels. Overall, it’s eye catching and innovative from a visual point of view, but the rest of the product is pretty average. Reviewed on: 6/29/2010

Rage Ripped

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Diet; Container: 16 fl oz (473 ml) can
BevNET Review: Ripped Rage is a sugar free variety that’s also designed with weight loss in mind. The flavor of the product tastes like a mixed berry, which has been given a moderate level of sweetness through the use of sucralose and ace-k. However, these artificial sweeteners leave the drink with more aftertaste, which is something that’s worth noting. Functionally, this product has some similarities to the other Rage flavors, including added caffeine, ginseng, guarana, and B vitamins. It also has thermogenic ingredients, thus making this a product that supposedly aids in fat burning. While we can’t comment on if or how well this works, it’s something that should be explained a bit better on the packaging. Speaking of the packaging, this one could use some help, as they fail to explain with the flavor of the drink is and potentially confuse the buyer with “thermogenic matrix” writtenwhere the flavor has typically been placed on other Rage varieties. Overall, an interesting concept, but both the flavor and design need some improvement. Reviewed on: 4/8/2009

RAGE Shot

Product Type:Functional: Energy Shot; Container:
BevNET Review: Rage’s Shot is a decent tasting one, with a sugar free fruit punch flavor that’s easy to chug down. It packs a decent kick, with a potent amount of caffeine, as well as N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine, L-Phenylalanine, enzymes, and vitamins. Packaging is clean and simple, with an easy to read front panel that provides a good adaptation of the Rage brand. On the other hand, we could live without the bulls eye that’s in the middle of the word “shot” – a bit over the top. Otherwise, a decent energy shot that packs a hefty punch.Reviewed on: 4/8/2009

RAGE Big Mofo (K.O. Punch)

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container:
BevNET Review: This variety is named “K.O. Punch Energy,” so it seems fitting that it’s the official energy drink of a championship fighting league. The flavor is sweet and enjoyable, with a sugar and sucralose sweetened formulation that’s crisp and clean to the finish. On the energy front, this can packs in 375mg of caffeine and also features taurine, B vitamins, and D-glucuronolactone. So, the product certainly has some kick to it. Packaging is big (24 oz.) and aggressive looking, with the text “BIG MOFO” near the top of the can. We’re not really big fans of this approach. Aside from the corniness of it, the Rage brand is aggressive enough without it. Plus, it pollutes what is otherwise an attractive looking can. Overall, we’re fans of the flavor of this product, but 24 ounces is too much for us as is the over the top nickname for the product.Reviewed on: 4/8/2009

Thai Rage Lemonade

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container:
BevNET Review: As far as non-carbonated energy drinks go, this is definitely one of the better tasting products that we’ve had. On the other hand, it seems like three “Thai style” flavors are a bit much for this brand, to the point where keeping only one might make this line a bit more manageable. In any event, we won’t hold that against this particular flavor, which was definitely our favorite of the bunch. Packaging is creative and attractive, with an authentic-looking Thai-themed label that even managed to fool a few of our staff members. Definitely worth a try.Reviewed on: 4/8/2009

Thai Rage Original

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container:
BevNET Review: This variety of Rage is a Thai made-and-inspired energy drink, which is a throwback to the classic non-carbonated roots of the energy category. This one is what you might call a “classic” flavor, with a smooth berry flavor that’s sugar sweetened and easy to drink. From an energy point of view, it has less kick than many of Rage’s other products, but it’s definitely a nice change of pace. Packaging is simple yet unique, with faux Thai writing used on the front panel. This makes it a bit hard to read, but helps create a sense of authenticity for the product. Overall, an enjoyable and creative entry.Reviewed on: 4/8/2009

RAGE Wrath

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container:
BevNET Review: Wrath, which is a subtitled “The Grape Escape,” is a pleasant-tasting grape energy drink that’s fortified with caffeine, taurine, creatine, and ginseng. The result is a product that’s easy to drink and packs a decent kick. Plus, it has creatine, which is a point of differentiation against most other energy drinks on the market. Packaging has an aggressive themed design that is clean in execution. It’s a good fit for the Rage brand. The front panel is easy on the eye, with text aligned and colored in such a way that you can quickly get a sense of what’s inside the can. Overall, an enjoyable tasting product that has clean execution.Reviewed on: 4/8/2009

Rage Liquid Energy

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (473ml) can
BevNET Review: Rage Liquid Energy is a pleasant tasting citrus flavored energy drink that features a creatine enhanced formulation. In addition to creative, the product has a fairly standard blend of B vitamins, taurine, ginseng, guarana, and caffeine (200mg per can). However, the manufacturer has increased the levels of these ingredients so that Rage has higher doses than Red Bull, Rockstar, and Monster. Ultimately though, it will be a question of whether or not the consumer wishes to associate with the Rage brand. It's decent looking, but likely a bit too aggressive looking for certain consumers. In addition, using creatine is a bit of a gamble as it can have both a negative and positive connotation with consumers. Overall, interesting looks and pleasant taste, but we can't help feeling like this drink needs more to stand out.Reviewed on: 12/20/2007

Rage Asylum

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (473ml) can
BevNET Review: Rage Energy Drink's "Asylum" is a sweet cherry flavored drink -- although we would have guessed that it was orange flavored from the color of the can. It's a sweet formulation that tastes like other energy drinks we've tried before, but it's still enjoyable nonetheless. The functional ingredients in the drink include the usual suspects (guarana, ginseng, B vitamins, taurine, caffeine) as well as creatine. The aggressive urban style packaging is well executed with the exception of the logo font, which is difficult to read. However, the biggest question is whether or not this drink is different enough to warrant a place on the store shelves. Reviewed on: 12/20/2007
