BevNET Review: Abita Root Beer is a very nice micro-brew root brew from Louisiana. Using water from historical Abita Springs, LA, this product aims to provide a beverage that uses some of the finest quality water as its base. In addition, to using fine water, Abita uses pure cane sugar as the sweetener, so it has a very clean mouth feel to it. The resulting flavor is very good. It has a moderate amount of weight to it and a very slight licorice taste to it. We also like the nice 40's style label. A good, well rounded product.

I guess I was expecting more from the rave reviews...got several indie rootbeers from CostPlus World Market And Bevmo...the label didn't list any of the exotic ingredients, just cane sugar phosphoric acid and 'rootbeer' flavoring, whatever that is. Technically, bought a bottle of Mason's root beer from Monarch company, and it was better (drank same day as Abita). Mason's is 5 stars, but cant find listed here.

Wish I could get it locally

This is one of the best root beers in the country (I should know, because I have tried most of them). I just wish they would distribute their root beer along side their regular beer. I live in north MS and we can get the beer, but not the RB.

The Best!

I took a class at the New Orleans Cooking School and they served Abita root and regular. I don't like beer so the choice was easy. It filled my mouth with reach, creamy flavor and I concluded it was the best root beer I've ever tasted.

Cane Sugar NOT HFCS

If you remember what it's like to drink something with real sugar and not High Fructose Corn Syrup, this is it. You had to talk a swig and couldn't drink the whole thing because the sugar told you stomach to STOP. Great with BBQ! Slaw dogs or just to watch the game. Bold flavor, not watered down or weak. No bite. Not everyone carries it, even in Louisiana.

It Sold Me

I'm not a fan of rootbeer, but this one won me over. Try it on a hot day, served in a frosted mug. Extra points if you've been walking the Garden District on a muggy day in June. Better yet, order two!

The cane sugar really makes a difference. This has a nice high level sweetness, that is not over the top. The sassafras flavor has a nice bite.

Pretty good. It tastes a little like caramel. I have never had a root beer as good as old Frostie.
