Acai + Coconut Water

Product Type:Juice: Coconut Water and Juice; Container: 32 oz PET
BevNET Review: With the coconut water craze still in full swing, new fruit juice and coconut water blends are rapidly being brought to market. Acai Roots’ Acai Juice + Coconut Water is one of those products, with a 100% juice USDA Organic mixture of acai and coconut water. For those who are familiar with these flavors, the taste is quite predictable: the stronger tart flavor of the acai masks almost all of the coconut water flavor. The result is something that tastes like thinned-out acai juice. It’s hard to say if that’s a good or bad thing, especially since the flavor of this product is quite drinkable and enjoyable. Nutritionally, the product does not have any meaningful electrolytes on the nutrition panel, so the coconut water seems to have little impact on this product outside of the potential marketing benefit for the initial purchase of this product. Packaging is, at least at the time of review, a 32 oz. bottle with a full wrap label. The large size is somewhat perplexing as this definitely seems like a product that would do better in single serve. Otherwise, the design of the label lacks the cleanliness that is found in other acai and coconut water brands. The way that they’ve stacked the flavor name (with a different font for each line) is hard on the eyes to the point that they could easily miss it when panning the cooler. Plus, the design of the logo seems at odds with the style of the rest of the bottle (we’d change the logo rather than the theme). Overall, it’s a nice tasting drink, but what’s inside the bottle is not exactly what we were expecting.Reviewed on: 10/17/2011

Pro X Acai + Pineapple + Coconut

Product Type:Juice: Smoothie; Container: 10 oz.
BevNET Review: Compared to the other entry from Acai Roots, this is a much stronger and superior entry. Using a mixture of acai, pineapple, and coconut, they've created an original tasting flavor that's extremely pleasant tasting. The pineapple and coconut work well together, with sweet notes of pineapple and the distinct flavor of coconut helping to balance the tartness of the acai. The addition of whey protein is a great point of differentiation, lending the product 5g of protein per serving. Packaging, on the other hand, still suffers from the ails of its counterpart, AX3. The front panel blends a variety of styles, which visually confuse the eye. In addition, the technical looking "PRO X" logo could be a bit off putting, given its similarities to what you'd typically see on a supplement product. Overall, we like the flavor and addition of protein -- but the appearance needs some improvement.Reviewed on: 12/1/2008

AX 3 Acai + Pomegranate + Blueberry

Product Type:Juice: Smoothie; Container: 10 oz.
BevNET Review: From a flavor point of view, this product definitely leaves something to be desired. Whereas other acai juices have evolved to the point where the flavor is smooth and balanced, this variety is not and feels like something we would have seen hit the market several years ago. There's decent hit of acai, which is good since the brand is an "acai smoothie," but the added blueberry juice, pomegranate juice, and natural flavors give the product some tart notes that don't mesh well with the acai. The finish is a bit off as well, with none of the fruit flavors being distinguishable from the mix. Packaging has similar problems. First, there are three visual elements competing for your eye, starting with the "Acai Roots" logo. Directly below it is the technical looking "AX3 Triple Antioxidant" logo and below that is the "Acai Smoothie" logo with a casual sans-serif font. In our opinion, straddling casual and technical is a mistake, especially since it's confusing as to which of these elements is the brand name. Overall, this product isn't terrible, but given where the market and competitors are at, this product needs to do more.Reviewed on: 12/1/2008
