I grew up in Ky, in powell co and this is about the only thing I would drink. Lived in FL for a couple years while in the navy and hated that I couldn't get it. Had a case of cans sent down but needless to say...Now, living in Canada, I hadn't had the stuff for over 4 years, until now. My mother had some sent directly from the bottling plant. Bottles and cans. AFter the first cold drink from that gorgeous green bottle, I was in heaven. Greatest thing ever.
I live in Harvest, AL was born in Lexington but lived in Whinchester GOD THIS IS STILL MY FAVORITE SODA!!!!!
and we bugged a few stores around here and now we don't have to go to KY to get it anymore all we have to do is go to the kroger's in huntsville ^_^
but there are only the non-refillable bottles which yeah they are good, but the returnables are the best also what u guys should try is puttin one in the frezzer for about 5-15 mins it makes it slush like and more intense of a flavor
I grew up in Winchester and was fortunate enough to grow up drinking this stuff. Some people call it swamp water...but i think it came straight from the fountain of youth. All people young and old here in Winchester feel young when we drink this. Never out of a can or over ice though...only out of the bottle.
4.5 stars / 5.0 Never had heard of it before. Saw it in a case yesterday passing through Lexington, so I thought I'd try one (a diet). Tasted mild at first, then a bit peculiar. I'd put it down, then want another sip. Aftertaste was quite good! The real ginger helped ease my stomach (and mind) so that after awhile I was feelin' downright good. Now to see if I can find some in my native IL. Thumbs Up to the late one!
I live in Winchester where Ale-8 is made, so I have grown up loving it. Don't try to take across a national border though b/c they will think it is alcohol since it has Ale in the name.
I'm a huge ginger ale fan and Ale 8 is better than ginger ale. We visited KY from PA to see friends and got hooked. Now when they come to visit us, we make them bring at least 10 cases. My fave anecdote is when I was in a Kroger in Mt Sterling. I watched a woman tell the customer service person she had returnable bottles to turn in. He asked how many and she said 73. He asked "73 bottles?" She said, "No, 73 cases." They do drink it like water down there!
Oh God Bless G.L. Wainscott. The light Ginger taste, with the hint of citris mixed somehow so perfectly with the Wainscott family secret recipe, that this is the perfect drink after a hard days work, or an easy days sittin' around. Whenever I need a break you will never fail to find an ale-8 in my hand.
This soda has a sharp but light taste unlike anything I've ever tasted. Tangy going down with no aftertaste. The diet Ale-8-1 is very similar in taste to the original.
It will make all other soft drinks seem terrible by comparison, and you'll spend the rest of your life wishing you were in Kentucky where the Ale 8 One is as plentiful as the mountains. Ale 8 (without the One, as the locals call it) is most amazing when consumed from the classic glass bottles. I save the bottles and pour the Ale 8 from cans into the bottles when I drink them.
I'm jealous that the state south of me gets to claim a soft drink to their name. Despite this hostility, I can't deny the quality of Ale-8-One. It's a light drink with flavors that seem as old as time, a refreshing concept in this day of wild taste amalgamations and space-age sugar substitutes. Give this a try.
Growing up in Kentucky is awesome. It is so fun to be able to drink a soft drink from your home state. This drink is wonderful, and I encourage everyone to try it. This drink has a slight ginger taste with a combo of a nice fruity taste. Its wonderful!!
Bottled in wonderful Winchester it eptomises refreshment in a bottle. Drive thru pick up a six pack of deposit bottles and watch the reveence with which the sales staff and other customers try you. It is almost you are holding thier new born baby. Ale-8, it glorifies. . ..
I first "discovered" this drink when I got back from the Persian Gulf in 1991. And let me tell you, I loved the taste and the kick better than anything on the market. Jolt is a joke, but Ale-8-One is not. I'd love to see it wherever I am stationed in the world!
I remember growing up with this "pop", we drank it like water. The best is placing the bottle in the freezer and letting it get slushy and then sipping it on a humid summer day. This is a great beverage for cooling down. Not too sweet, not to sharp like ginger ale.
I forgot how good a ginger ale could be, and lucky for me Ale 81 has expanded their distribution area. In the hills east of Winchester, KY its fun to watch people snatch this beverage up like it was free. But if you can get the real stuff its better.
