Product Type: Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 11.5 oz
BevNET Review: A&W Float is certainly an interesting concept, especially for a novelty product -- which this appears to be. It packs a massive 260 calories into its 11.5 oz wrapped glass bottle, so it's definitely not for the dieter. The flavor is actually quite accurate and the use of sugar and dairy give it a taste that's spot on to the real thing. On the other hand, there's an issue with the consistency of the drink which, in shelf stable form, is homogenized into what you might get if you put an ice cream float in a blender for a few minutes. So in that sense, we'd prefer to stick with the real thing (is there ever a good substitute for ice cream???) rather than indulge in this product. However, in terms of line extensions and novelty products, it is, for better or worse, one of the better we've had in recent times. Worth a try.

Diabetes in a bottle

A friend of mine purchased this drink and offered me a sip. I was overwhelmed by an appalling sweetness and distant hints of root beer hiding behind it. If you're interested, that 11.5oz bottle has 63grams of sugar, which is a concentration that is only matched by energy drinks (but not balanced by any sort of tartness). Yeah, real root beer floats are very sweet too, but this is about a mile beyond that.

I love rootbeer and rootbeer floats. This product has failed the taste test. I ended up dumping 3 bottles because it is not good. Sorry.

A great taste, If you like sweets? This is a combo you will enjoy! Price is a little too high, 2.99 or 3.99 a price.

Accurate taste!

Like what HousePainter said above, shake it before you drink it. It really doesn't make a difference. I'm not a chemist, but I don't think carbonation and dairy mix, so I wouldn't expect it to be ultra fizzy like a normal soda. It's the same as drinking the float itself, just with melted ice cream. Really good! I prefer the Sunkist Float because I'm an orange and creme fan.

You shouldn't even bother.

This is a pretty terrible drink. Particularly, it doesn't taste very much like root beer, and it is too sweet. It becomes worse with every sip. I managed to finish mine but only because I really try to avoid wasting food. I certainly didn't want to finish i.

Flat and Much Too Sweet

Avoid this drink. The problems are as follows: 1. It is flat. 2. It is much too sweet, sickeningly so. 3. It has a distinct caramel taste. I agree with the critic who said that the drink should be pulled from the store shelves pronto!

Disapointing

I consider myself to be a root beer expert, and have tried other brands of root beer float soda that were very nice. This on the other hand lacked carbonation, and had the taste and mouth feel of drinking those little cups of flavored Carnation coffee creamer. A&W can do better than this.

A&W Floats ICK

I had "real" root beer float Saturday night, and bought the A&W float on Sunday and tried it Sunday night. It was awful! It tastes nothing like a root beer float, it doesn't even taste anything like root beer. I can't vouch for the Sunkist Float but I'm not risking it. I couldn't even finish it, it tasted so badly. I can't imagine how it got through taste testing. Stick with the 'hassle' (from their website http://www.floats.com) of the original.

SHAKE IT UP!!!

Make sure to SHAKE this drink before trying it.... The first time that I tried it I was unhappy... I thought that it had the same flat taste as the other reviwers... then I noticed that it said to shake it up... and what a difference it makes. Neat novelty drink for every now and then treat..

Terrible! I bought a 4 pack for $5.99 at the local Publix thinking I would give it a try. Whenever we go on vacation I try all the root beers I can find. So I figured I would try these. A&W and Sunkist. I tried the A&W first and it was flat with little to no carbination in it at all. Taste was more of carmel not root beer and ice cream. I couldnt finish the bottle and poured it down the drain. Money was well wasted with this stuff. I am afraid to open and try the Sunkist at this point. I still have 3 bottles of A&W that I should go and return and get my money back. Too much sugar in them also.
