Lemongrass Mint Vanilla

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 12 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Blending lemongrass, mint, and vanilla might not be something that whets the consumer’s palate, but it actually makes for a very tasty flavor combination to blend with sparkling water. The bite of the carbonation enhances the flavors, making for something that is quite enjoyable even without any sweetener. Being able to taste each of the flavors tells your senses that this is a quality product. However, our concern for this product is one of mistaken identity -- it looks very much like a soda. The flavor pairing doesn’t help the situation either. Finally, we think that it will be challenging to compete with the lower priced competitors (made by big companies like Nestle Waters). The product could certainly do more to establish itself as a premium product (perhaps choosing a different bottle, for starters). Overall, it’s an enjoyable product, but we think it will be too easy to miss in its current form. Reviewed on: 10/13/2011

Ginger Lemon Peel

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 12 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Of the four flavors that make up Ayala Herbal Water’s sparkling line, the Ginger Lemon Peel variety was our favorite. This flavor is bit more complex than the others (thanks to the stronger ginger flavor) and the absence of an herbal note is a nice change (and it makes the drink less overpowering). If you like flavored seltzer, you’ll likely find this product extremely drinkable -- it’s definitely a product that can hold up without sweetener. Packaging is a 12 oz. longneck soda bottle, which will certainly be something that confuses at least some portion of consumers since the logo emphasizes “Herbal Water.” At least for this particular flavor, that’s a bit of misnomer, since the product is sparkling and doesn’t contain any herbs. Plus, the use of a soda bottle might make consumers expect a sweetened product. Otherwise, the product has a clean and sophisticated visual look -- we just think that changing up the branding and labeling would help it out. Reviewed on: 10/13/2011

Cinnamon Orange Peel

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 16 fl oz (473ml) plastic
BevNET Review: Cinnamon and orange peel might not whet the appetite when you read the label, but this is a very enjoyable product once you give it a try. The product has a yin and yang feeling with the tartness of the orange peel balanced by the slightly spicy taste of the cinnamon. It seems more balanced than the original version (the latest round is USDA Organic as well), which is a definite plus. Definitely improved over the first batch that we sampled. Reviewed on: 6/4/2008

Cloves Cardamom Cinnamon

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 16 fl oz (473ml) plastic
BevNET Review: Clove, cardamom, and cinnamon -- that's anything but standard for a flavored water. The mildly spiced flavor is probably most closely compared to the spice found in chai. For a zero calorie product, this flavor of Ayala Herbal Water delivers an adult flavor that's big on taste from start to finish. Overall, the execution of the flavor is near perfect. Packaging is clean and elegant, and the addition of USDA Organic certification will certainly help. However, we'd still love to see more emphasis on the flavor -- at least a bigger font would be nice. Definitely a must try flavor.Reviewed on: 6/4/2008

Ginger Lemon Peel

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 16 fl oz (473ml) plastic
BevNET Review: Like the other flavors, Ginger Lemon Peel has gone through a bit of an upgrade, with USDA Organic flavors being used in place of the previous "all natural" varieties. Aside from the benefits of the USDA Organic logo, the product has a more balanced flavor with the lemon and ginger. The packaging is attractive and professional looking, but the name of the flavor still feels a bit hard to find. Overall, a much improved drink that, aside from a minor flaw in type treatment, is a great product. Reviewed on: 6/4/2008

Lavender Mint

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 16 fl oz (473ml) plastic
BevNET Review: Ayala's Lavender Mint Lemongrass Thyme entry is a well executed mixture of herbal ingredients that is delivered in unsweetened form. The result is a taste that's very true to nature, complete with four very distinct herbal flavor. The lemongrass gives the product a familiar citrus taste, while the lavender and thyme add some richness to the aroma and a splash of mint rounds out the finish. It's a very drinkable and refreshing product that cannot be compared to other products on the market today -- at least in terms of flavor. Like many new "functional" products, this one is making a softer push, offering herbal benefits that are less direct than the tried and true sugar and caffeine mixture that created the industry. That's fine by us though -- especially with an innovative offering like this one.Reviewed on: 6/4/2008

Lemongrass Mint Vanilla

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 16 fl oz (473ml) plastic
BevNET Review: Ayala Herbal Water's Lemongrass Mint Vanilla is a well formulated product that proves that you can have depth of flavor without sugar. First to hit your tongue is the lemongrass, followed by the vanilla and lastly with a mild mint finish. Plus, the combination of the three flavors works extremely well together, giving the product extremely high refreshment quality. Last, but not least, they've recently switched to an Organic formulation, which doesn't appear to have had any negative (or positive) impact on the already enjoyable flavor. Reviewed on: 6/4/2008

Lemon Verbena Geranium

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 16.9 oz
BevNET Review: The latest flavor of Ayala Herbal Water is Lemon Verbena Geranium, which also is the first flavor to be launched since the brand updated its packaging. This variety delivers a mellow floral flavor that finishes with a touch of lemon verbena (similar to lemon flavor). Having never seen these flavors in a beverage before, we’d be hard pressed to identify it as geranium or verbena. Still, the flavor is mellow and soothing, with a flavor that is pleasing to the palate. The updated packaging helps quite a bit, with more emphasis on “Herbal Water” than “Ayala’s” and better placement of the flavor name. In addition, the tweak to the neck of the bottle helps the product have a bit more of its own identity. So, technically speaking, this is a pretty nicely executed product. From a market point of view, the question is whether the brand needs another lemon flavored variety (this makes three) and whether or not geranium is something that will appeal to consumers. In our opinion, this is likely a variety that appeals to existing drinkers of the brand rather than new drinkers – but it’s sure to inspire curiosity in consumers that are scanning the water aisle. Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 16 fl oz (473ml) plastic
BevNET Review: Jasmine Vanilla isn't exactly a name that will whet the appetite of mainstream America, but this formulation does not disappoint in any way. Made with four simple ingredients, this USDA Organic product has a floral aroma that gives way to a clean almost minimalist flavor. With soothing notes of jasmine and vanilla, Ayala's Jasmine Vanilla delivers exactly what's promised on the label. Packaging is clean and professional looking, which fits well with the earthy nature of this product. Overall, a nice product that's definitely an innovative step for the category.Reviewed on: 6/4/2008
