Lemongrass Mint Vanilla

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 12 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Blending lemongrass, mint, and vanilla might not be something that whets the consumer’s palate, but it actually makes for a very tasty flavor combination to blend with sparkling water. The bite of the carbonation enhances the flavors, making for something that is quite enjoyable even without any sweetener. Being able to taste each of the flavors tells your senses that this is a quality product. However, our concern for this product is one of mistaken identity -- it looks very much like a soda. The flavor pairing doesn’t help the situation either. Finally, we think that it will be challenging to compete with the lower priced competitors (made by big companies like Nestle Waters). The product could certainly do more to establish itself as a premium product (perhaps choosing a different bottle, for starters). Overall, it’s an enjoyable product, but we think it will be too easy to miss in its current form.

Ginger Lemon Peel

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 12 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Of the four flavors that make up Ayala Herbal Water’s sparkling line, the Ginger Lemon Peel variety was our favorite. This flavor is bit more complex than the others (thanks to the stronger ginger flavor) and the absence of an herbal note is a nice change (and it makes the drink less overpowering). If you like flavored seltzer, you’ll likely find this product extremely drinkable -- it’s definitely a product that can hold up without sweetener. Packaging is a 12 oz. longneck soda bottle, which will certainly be something that confuses at least some portion of consumers since the logo emphasizes “Herbal Water.” At least for this particular flavor, that’s a bit of misnomer, since the product is sparkling and doesn’t contain any herbs. Plus, the use of a soda bottle might make consumers expect a sweetened product. Otherwise, the product has a clean and sophisticated visual look -- we just think that changing up the branding and labeling would help it out.
