BevNET Review: The latest flavor of Ayala Herbal Water is Lemon Verbena Geranium, which also is the first flavor to be launched since the brand updated its packaging. This variety delivers a mellow floral flavor that finishes with a touch of lemon verbena (similar to lemon flavor). Having never seen these flavors in a beverage before, we’d be hard pressed to identify it as geranium or verbena. Still, the flavor is mellow and soothing, with a flavor that is pleasing to the palate. The updated packaging helps quite a bit, with more emphasis on “Herbal Water” than “Ayala’s” and better placement of the flavor name. In addition, the tweak to the neck of the bottle helps the product have a bit more of its own identity. So, technically speaking, this is a pretty nicely executed product. From a market point of view, the question is whether the brand needs another lemon flavored variety (this makes three) and whether or not geranium is something that will appeal to consumers. In our opinion, this is likely a variety that appeals to existing drinkers of the brand rather than new drinkers – but it’s sure to inspire curiosity in consumers that are scanning the water aisle.
