BevNET Review: BAO’s “Ginger Flavor” is a USDA Organic kombucha made with a blend of kombucha, organic ginger, and organic spices. From a taste perspective, this kombucha falls somewhere in the middle when it comes to fermented flavor. There’s a mild amount of sweetness, followed by a modest amount of vinegar-iness(from the fermentation), and the drink has a light ginger note to the finish. We taste the spices, but it’s hard to say exactly which ones were used. All in all, it’s pleasant, although dialing up the amount of ginger in the product would definitely make the product more balanced and enjoyable. Packaging is a 16 oz. vinegar bottle, which they’ve decorated with a label that looks like something that was designed for a food product rather than a beverage. Visually, the eye goes to the black text for the flavor name, while the smallish white BAO logo is secondary. The name “BAO,” which stands for “bad ass organics”, doesn’t really live up to the “bad ass” theme that the copy on the back of the label describes. Overall, this is a perfectly good kombucha product, but in order to really stand out we’d like to see more ginger in the flavor and something different on the label.Reviewed on: 2/14/2012
