Ginger Beer

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 11 oz Can
BevNET Review: Billed as a "Fantastically Fiery" ginger beer, Barr's (the maker's of IRN BRU) Ginger Beer has some nice ginger spice to it, but it doesn't really qualify as spicy when you consider the full spectrum of ginger beers that are out there. One thing that it does have going for it is a decent list of ingredients, including sugar, 3 percent lemon juice, and natural flavors. Still, it's not really a standout product, just a slightly-above-average formula that is perfectly fine if it's the option that's presented to you. But it's not a product that consumers will go out of their way for. We'd say the same about the package, which has a classic looking design, but feels a bit too generic to really stand out. However, if they are going for the on-premise market, then it will probably do, assuming the price isn't too high. Moving it into a glass package would certainly help this product fit into the premium market. Until then, it's hard to get overly excited about this product.Reviewed on: 11/15/2010

Dandelion & Burdock

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 11 oz Can
BevNET Review: Bringing a traditional British carbonated soft drink into the US market at a time when sugar based CSDs are on the decline seems like a questionable idea, but at least the execution of the product is good. For the uninitiated, dandelion and burdock is a classic soft drink that was traditionally made with fermented dandelions. In the case of this drink, you've got a flavor that tastes like a mellow root beer, but with a floral note also in play. It's good, if you're in the mood for something British, although we'd probably rather have an IRN BRU (made by the same company). On the outside, they product comes in a 12 oz. can, which is decorated in a way that feels more appropriate for canned beer. Furthermore, we think it would be easy to miss, with the unfamiliar and generic sound of the Barr's brand. We think that they'll need to do more with this product to make it stick in the US marketReviewed on: 11/15/2010
