Beyond Coconut Water

BevNET Review: While there are plenty of coconut water beverages that come in canned form -- in fact, it was the first coconut water package format to make its way to the U.S. -- the 250mL "slim can," which has been synonymous with energy drinks and other functional beverages, hasn’t been a popular format for coconut water. In this case, however, Beyond Coconut Water is packaged in a 250 mL steel can, packaged with not-from-concentrate coconut water from Thailand. It’s more salty than sweet, which is definitely the preferred balance in our book, and it’s certainly enjoyable as far as coconut waters go. Visually, the can is simple and clean, with vertical text and a smallish coconut image to the bottom left, on top of a blue and white gradient background. It has a polished look, although the eye seems to stray away from reading the thinner vertical text. Furthermore, this package, while nice, doesn’t have the upscale feel that they’ve created with their glass packaging. Other than that, there’s the brand attribute “Beyond,” which implies (albeit subtly) that there is some sort of value add above traditional coconut water. That’s not the case, so this name could perhaps lead to confusion. Regardless, we like the choice of package and this is a good extension to their line.Reviewed on: 10/1/2012
