Beyond Kombucha

Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

Beyond Kombucha began when three people with the same vision living in adjacent neighborhoods on the Brooklyn/Queens border were introduced by a mutual aquaintance in the Spring of 2010. The shared vision that brought them together was the production of a gourmet quality kombucha fermented tea using fine Asian, African and South American teas. A commitment to brewing something entirely beyond most people's image and ideas about kombucha was the common motivation to invest time, energy, and the necessary blood, sweat and tears. The consistent satisfaction of our customers and growing distribution network is testimony to the quality and consistency of our product. As we expand in New York, the vision for Beyond Kombucha has in turn expanded to embrace the model of micro-brewries with storefronts in cities all over the country, supporting local economies, reducing costs, and eliminating carbon emmissions that are generated by transportation networks that normally move product to markets all over the country from a central location.

Hibiscus

Product Type:Tea: Kombucha; Container: 14 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Beyond Kombucha’s Hibiscus variety is a very well executed “artisan quality” kombucha. The base kombucha is made with snow bud white tea, which seems a bit lighter than mainstream kombucha brands. The product is sweetened with cane sugar, but still low in calories at 50 per bottle. Really, though, it’s the addition of hibiscus that makes this kombucha product as enjoyable as it is. The floral flavor is the perfect complement to the fermented taste at the base of the product. Plus, it gives the drink an appealing dark red color. The drink is packaged in a 14 oz. glass bottle with a homemade looking label. Aside from the slightly confusing “Infusia” and “Hibiscus” text (which one is the name?), the label looks like something that’s of artisanal quality. Plus, we like the shape of the bottle, which is something that we can’t recall being used for a beverage before. Overall, if you are looking for kombucha that has that homemade vibe, this is definitely a great product to reach for.Reviewed on: 2/11/2011

Formula One

Product Type:Tea: Kombucha; Container: 14 oz Glass
BevNET Review: This variety of Beyond Kombucha is made with yerba mate and gunpowder green tea, which they’ve infused with ginseng, guarana, licorice root, and crystalized ginger. The resulting flavor is really enjoyable, with the mate and green tea providing an earthy flavor that we haven’t seen in some of the more widely available kombucha brands. It’s sweetened with cane sugar, but in a very restrained way – the product has only 25 calories per serving. The secondary flavors, most notably the licorice root and crystallized ginger, give the product a subtle pop to its finish that enhances the enjoyment of the product. There’s a decent amount of carbonation to the mix, which gives the product a crisp feeling in the mouth. We really like their bottle choice, which has a wide body and a slender neck. This allows the product to be consumed from an opening that feels like something appropriate to a carbonated beverage, while not looking like a soda bottle. The label design is definitely homemade, which, at least for now, seems appropriate for a product of this type. Definitely worth a try if you’re a kombucha fan.Reviewed on: 2/11/2011

Ginger Snow Buds

Product Type:Tea: Kombucha; Container: 14 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Beyond Kombucha’s Ginger Snow Buds variety blends water, sugar, snow buds white tea, kombucha culture, and organic fresh pressed ginger juice. The resulting mixture is extremely delicate-tasting, starting with the white tea base. From there, the ginger flavor hits your tongue, followed by just a touch of sweetness. The fermented flavor is there, but it’s certainly not the strongest kombucha out there. Given that this product is on the lighter side (at least relative to other kombuchas out there), this product is great for people who are new to the concept or those who are in the mood for something that’s light on the palette. On the packaging front, the 14 oz. glass bottle has been decorated in such a way that it would be hard to mistake it for something other than an artisanal product (starting with the fact that it says “artisan quality” on it). The label is simple and feels hand made, while the bottle, which is not a standard one for beverage products, is unique and feels good in the hand. If we’d change anything, it would be to add “white tea” to the front panel – it’s definitely more well known than snow buds. Overall, another solid kombucha from Beyond Kombucha.Reviewed on: 2/11/2011
