Made with water, organic not-from-concentrate lemon juice, and organic agave nectar, Big Island Organics’ Agave Lemonade is about as straightforward as bottles of lemonade come. The flavor is well-executed and enjoyable, with the tart flavor of lemon and a slightly earthy sweetness from the agave. It’s certainly not as sweet as most mainstream bottles of lemonade that you’ll find (17 g of sugar per 8 oz.), which, combined with the agave and USDA Organic certification, allows this product to have its own identity in terms of flavor. Certainly a nice start for this product. Packaging is a stock 16 oz. glass bottle with a stock cap. The theme is clearly all about Hawaii, but the design needs a bit of work. Specifically, the name Big Island Organics is too small and doesn’t pop off the bottle, making it easy for the eye to glance over the name. Given that this product will sit next to other brands that have stronger branding, we think it’s important for Big Island Organics to attempt to make a better visual connection with the consumer. Overall, a solid bottle of lemonade with its biggest shortcoming being its label design.
