Black Cherry

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (473 ml) can
BevNET Review: In its colorful 16 oz. can, Black Cherry Blox tastes a lot like a carbonated soft drink and not so much like an energy drink. There is absolutely no "energy" flavor and, as we've said many times before, we think that this will negatively impact the perceived functionality of this product. The flavor is sweet with a flavor that we'd consider "cherry" rather than "black cherry" and the finish is a bit syrupy. The Blox is decorated with bright colors and the BLOX character, who is constructed from blocks. We're not sure what the BLOX brand is supposed to mean, but to us, we associate blocks with children as they have a rather harmless image. This innocuous image is really the best thing that BLOX has going for it. Otherwise, this product basically feels like a tall can of pop.Reviewed on: 6/15/2006

Orange Rush

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (473 ml) can
BevNET Review: Orange Rush is our favorite flavor of the BLOX brand. It's sweet and fruity, with just enough energy flavor to make the drinker think that there's actually something functional in this CSD-style energy drink. The package, which uses a standard 16 oz. Rexam can, is unique with its block stick figure, but it's tough to say what type of consumer this will resonate with. That being said, we're really not sure what BLOX Orange Rush offers that isn't already on the market. It's a good tasting product, but we simply don't know what segment this fills. Original

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (473 ml) can
BevNET Review: BLOX is the re-branded energy drink formerly known as "Blue Ox" Shortening the name to BLOX and coming up with the "block man" that you see on the label will probably keep the lawyers at bay, but it seems like it has really hurt this brand's chance of success. The BLOX name and label feel cartoon-like and we're honestly not sure who the potential buyer is for this product. Maybe it's the value-price buyer? As for the flavor, it's a bright-blue colored formulation that features a standard berry/bubblegum flavor. While the taste is no better or worse than many competing products, the use of blue color is definitely not necessary. Overall, this product needs improvement.Reviewed on: 6/15/2006
