Blue Monkey’s Coconut Coffee Drink is a certified organic blend of coconut cream, sugar, coffee and added emulsifiers/stabilizers. It’s billed as a dairy- and soy-free coffee drink, and it features a somewhat light-bodied coffee flavor. The coconut cream is definitely a unique experience, starting with the subtle coconut flavor that it adds to the drink. It also gives the product a unique texture and body, which is definitely closer to cream than it is milk. That said, it’s no surprise that this product has 200 calories and 10g of fat per container. Fortunately, it’s relatively low in sugar, with only 20g of sugar per container. Still, the high calorie content is something of an issue if anyone turns the can around and looks at the label. It’s hard to see this option being a better seller than the products that simply mix coconut water, coffee and low-fat milk. Visually, the 16 oz. can features both English and French text, which is certainly a plus if the company is after the Canadian market. Otherwise, we think that Blue Monkey could make the graphics a bit more vibrant and appealing. As it stands right now, you pretty much have to read the text as the only visual clue that the small beans along the bottom of the can are coffee beans. In addition, Blue Monkey could do a better job of expressing the purpose of the product. Overall, it’s good, but we honestly feel as though more could be done with this product, starting with cutting the calories and offering more variety in flavors.
