BevNET Review: Given how much we enjoyed the black cherry, we’re surprised at the lack of consistency in the flavor of the Crème Vanilla. Although it’s made with cane sugar and bourbon vanilla, chocolate and coffee extracts, the sweetness still tastes a bit artificial, and the consistency seems a little, well, watery rather than creamy. It still comes in that great Boylan’s bubble-top bottle, and should benefit from the visual and tactile appeal of the brand, but overall it’s a dip in the high road they’re taking.

I love creme soda, but since my childhood in southern Louisiana, I had yet to find one that compared to the elusive ones we had available to us as kids. This is by far the best creme soda I have tasted since then, and the taste is highly preferred to the sickly-sweeter brands of my youth. I rarely indulge creme soda, however, being a lady who likes to keep a check on sweets and my waistline. A recent bout of stomach valve dysfunction and stress that lasted a bit too long led me to go years without comforting foods or special treats. As soon as I was in the clear, I found this creme soda and fell in love. Time passed and I had a severe unexpected reoccurance of the stomach valve issue, which caused debilitating pain,esophageal spams, and indigestion. In a strange and unexplained moment of desperation when I couldn't get to a doctor(weekend), I drank one of these, not really sure why or if it would be a mistake. I almost instantly was relieved of all my symptoms. I've been drinking one a day after my most substantial meal, and my ailment has stopped bothering me. Will still go get treatment, but this creme soda kept me out of the emergency room and brought me intense relief. Who knew creme soda could be a lifesaver. I will always be grateful and recommend this beverage as heaven sent. No kidding!

Since I cant find Tommy Knockers anymore, my favorite Creme to drink is now Boylans. You can for sure taste the difference between cane sugar and syrup. There is a consistency problem from bottle to bottle. I dont know what would cause this, it may even be my taste buds messing with me. A good bottle brings 5 stars and then the next bottle might taste flat or may even have a funny aftertaste, I dont know?-when they are on they are on.

My Mistake...Creme Soda for Grown-Ups

I rather stupidly posted my review for this product under Boylan's regular Creme Soda (which, until recently, I hadn't actually tried), so I tried to pull it and am posting it here. This beverage lists, in addition to Bourbon Vanilla, chocolate and coffee among its natural flavors. This creates a creme soda with a touch of dryness and greater complexity than your run-of-the mill creme; despite my finding the flavor (but not the aroma) of coffee inedible and nauseous, I really like this soda. The secondary and tertiary flavors aren't really identifiable as such (at least not to this palate) but they do enhance the overall flavor and give it depth; as is usual for Boylan's, the level of carbonation is just right, too. The sweetener is cane sugar, so the finish is very clean, non-syrupy, and just sweet enough. I only occasionally get an urge for a creme but this one and Virgil's would have to be my first choices of those readily available in New York City. I have yet to sample a Boylan's beverage that's anything less than stellar (with the glaring exception of their "regular" root beer) and I look forward to quaffing the bottle of their new Orange Creme that's currently residing in my 'fridge.
