While not quite as assertive or spicy as a Dr. Brown’s, the unsurpassed king of the black cherry scene – probably because of its minimal carbonation -- it’s still a tasty complement to food. But despite its real cane sugar and bourbon vanilla sweeteners, this soda is not so syrupy that it couldn’t be swigged by itself. Boylan’s comes in a clear glass bottle that could have come straight out of the Jetsons’ refrigerator, with a raised glass trademark evocative of a Chateauneuf du Pape bottle and a donut-shaped bump right underneath the twist-top.
