Brazil Gourmet Nectar Tea

Brazil Gourmet Nectar Tea

Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

Brazil Gourmet has expanded its product line with four new nectar-flavored teas that combine the “flavor of paradise with the healthy lift of iced tea,” according to the product’s manufacturer, Liberty Imports USA, Inc. The domestically produced nectar teas are available in 16-ounce textured glass bottles and four tropical flavors: Mango, Guava, Passion Fruit, and Mango-Passion Light. The labels feature color photos of the exotic fruits contained inside, information about the nutritional value of the products and a redesign of the brand’s South American toucan logo. The entire Brazil Gourmet line will sport similar packaging come June 2005. Brazil Gourmet Nectars have won wide acceptance throughout the Northeast, especially among the fast-growing Latino and Asian markets, and are increasingly popular with all demographics nationwide, according to Liberty Imports executive Simone Anewalt. She noted that mango “is one of the hottest flavor trends in the business.” Brazil Gourmet beverages are sold at Costco and BJ’s wholesale clubs and at independent supermarkets in New York, Massachusetts, Maryland and New Jersey. New distributors are currently sought for California, New York, Texas, Florida, New England and metropolitan Chicago and Seattle.

Guava

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review: With super guava flavor derived from the addition of guava puree, this is easily our favorite of the Brazil Gourmet Nectar Tea flavors. That noted, it’s not a great iced tea – because there’s practically no tea taste. Not that you notice it’s missing, because the guava tastes great, pure and simple. The packaging is pretty average, but the nice red color of the tea helps enhance the bottle’s appearance overall. Definitely worth a try.Reviewed on: 6/1/2005

Mango

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review: There’s plenty of mango flavor in this 10 percent juice blended RTD iced tea, but there’s not a lot of sweetness. But it’s nevertheless a strong statement from Brazil Gourmet, as its really pushing potent natural flavor forward. That noted, there’s also a strong tea component that appears in the finish; we’d like more tea taste for balance, but it’s yummy stuff regardless. The smell or packaging aren’t anything to write home about, but the 16-oz. bottle does have a simple, bright label that’s an upgrade against most competitive products. Definitely worth a try.Reviewed on: 6/1/2005

Mango Passion Light

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review: This isn’t bad as far as diet drinks go, but by cutting the juice content in half (10 percent to 5 percent) and mixing them, the flavor falls into an indistinct sweetness whose taste characteristics are made even muddier by the Splenda added to the mix. The brewers would have done better to stick with one juice and let the tea flavor rise to the surface – like the other drinks in this line, there isn’t much tea taste. With only a 30 calorie-per-serving savings (90 vs. 60), they’d have done better to leave out the artificial stuff and just go with the natural flavor of the tea. Still in the same nice package, and worth a try, but the single-flavor ones are better.Reviewed on: 6/1/2005

Passion Fruit

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review: This tastes terrific, but there’s not a lot of tea flavor, so iced tea fans might be disappointed. Nevertheless, this is an excellent drink – lots of passion fruit flavor and a great, rich mouthfeel. While the drink is sweet, it’s not unpleasantly syrupy; it does smell a little funky, likely from the concentrated apple juice used to sweeten and blend the passion fruit juice into the mix; we’d rather they tried to go with straight passion fruit juice. Packaging is rudimentary but serviceable, but on taste alone, a great drink.Reviewed on: 6/1/2005
