What is BuchuLife? It’s a sparkling water that is enhanced with buchu oil, which is an FDA-approved ingredient that is positioned as having anti-inflammatory benefits. Unfortunately, the product is, at least in liquid form, very difficult to consume. Having tried all four flavors, the Lime was the least offensive of the lineup. Buchu has, at least in these products, a flavor that is almost like a very earthy spearmint, but dialed up to a level where it overwhelms the palate. In the case of this product, this isn’t much carbonation and the lime flavor definitely starts to blend in as you drink it. If the company could dial up the carbonation and add more lime flavoring, we’d probably have a different opinion on this product. Until then, we’d suggest that those consumers who want buchu in their diet get it from some format other than a sparkling water. Packaging is another area that needs improvement. The design is busy and hard on the eyes, with a bulleted list of benefits on the bottom portion of the label (we’re never fond of these). Less is more would be a good principle to adopt. Overall, this product -- as well as the rest of the BuchuLife sparkling water flavors -- needs serious improvement if it hopes to gain a large audience.
