Review: Cheerwine (slim can)

Hailing from the Southeastern US, Cheerwine is pretty much the epitome of a retro soda, with branding that is sure to evoke a sense of nostalgia in a good percentage of people who see it. That said, moving the product into a slim 12 oz. can -- which is the can of choice for those brands seeking to have a more chic and modern look -- is definitely an interesting move. On the one hand, it seems slightly at odds with the retro look of the product. On the other hand, it definitely makes the product feel new again, especially when looking at the product in its 4-pack container (which is how it’s being sold at retail). That said, we think that this is a package that will grab some eyes and maybe even help Cheerwine gain some new buyers. Fortunately, what’s inside the can is the same great Cheerwine flavor that we’ve come to love. Thanks to the use of sugar, it’s clean and crisp, with a cherry flavored body that is sweet but not syrupy. While it has slimmed down on the outside, the product on the inside hasn’t, with 150 calories and 42g of sugar per serving. Overall, if you’re looking to indulge in a great tasting soda that pairs old with new, Cheerwine’s new slim can is definitely a solid choice.
