Green Tea Aloe Vera

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 11.5 oz PET
BevNET Review: Chan Tea’s Green Tea & Aloe Vera is a very enjoyable pairing of two flavors that might not intuitively go together. The grassiness of the green tea helps cut the sweet and viscous aloe vera juice, leaving something that has a lot more depth to it than most of the other aloe vera offerings that we’ve sampled so far. The product clocks in at 80 calories and 17g of sugar per 8 ounces (1.5 servings per bottle), which obviously doesn’t make this a low calorie drink, but it’s definitely a modest spot to be. Packaging is an 11.5 oz. PET bottle that is filled in Taiwan. The majority of the bottle is wrapped with something that looks very much like a stereotypical aloe vera drink. The treatment of the logo, which has light green “n” and a darker color for the rest of the products, is something that we’re not overly fond of. Otherwise, the look of the product is just okay -- it feels about on par with the rest of the aloe vera category, which is not known for its high quality designs. Overall, the flavor of this product is, as far as aloe vera drinks go, extremely enjoyable, but we wish that the packaging were executed at that same level. Reviewed on: 10/5/2011

Green Tea Aloe Vera Passion Fruit

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 11.5 oz PET
BevNET Review: Starting with a base of green tea and aloe vera (which makes up their flagship variety), Chan Tea’s Passion Fruit Flavor adds passion fruit flavoring to the mixture. And that’s really the only difference between this and the original formulation. The added fruit flavoring gives the product a very strong floral aroma and flavor. This is likely the result of the flavoring working on top of the sweet aloe flavor and the grassy green tea. For us, we prefer the simplicity of the original. We’d say the same for the packaging, which is made different by the addition of a red stripe running vertically and an image of a passion fruit cut in half. The image of the passion fruit isn’t something that is likely to whet the appetite of the American consumer, so we’d suggest that they come up with something different or simply remove it. Otherwise, the design is something that does not yet seem to be at a polished or finished state. Overall, the concept of marrying passion fruit, aloe vera, and green tea sounds interesting, but the product just isn’t where it needs to be yet. Reviewed on: 10/5/2011

Peach

Product Type:Other; Container: 11.5 oz PET
BevNET Review: Designed to be a play on the classic flavor of peach iced tea, Chan Tea’s Green Tea & Aloe Vera Peach flavor is a product that will, with the exception of the aloe vera pulp, taste quite familiar to most consumers. The peach flavor is quite strong and sweet tasting, although this product has almost the same amount of sugar as their other flavors (19g per serving). The green tea and aloe vera provide the secondary wave of flavor, which tastes slightly earthy and grassy. All in all, it’s a very pleasing, but slightly sweet, flavor (just like peach iced tea typically is). In terms of the bottle, the 11.5 oz. PET feels smallish in your hand. They’ve used a sleeve wrap label, which is fine, although the design that they’ve printed on it could definitely be refined (see the other flavor reviews for further thoughts). The only thing we’d say specific to this flavor is that using a peach without displaying a peach pit would be more appealing to the senses. Ultimately, this is a great flavor for the ChanTea lineup, with solid flavor and packaging that’s on par with their other flavors.Reviewed on: 10/5/2011

Lemon

Product Type:Other; Container: 11.5 oz PET
BevNET Review: Blending green tea, aloe vera juice, and lemon, the Green Tea & Aloe Vera Lemon flavor of ChanTea is their most mainstream tasting flavor to date. The aloe vera flavor takes a backseat to the tea and lemon, which makes this drink taste more like green tea with lemon than an aloe vera drink. Honestly, if it weren’t for the aloe vera pulp, you could probably miss the presence of aloe vera altogether. Whether this is a good or bad thing is ultimately a matter of preference, but it definitely seems like a great place for consumers who are new to the concept to start. Packaging is still the weakest area for this brand, with the current design lacking clarity and polish. The front panel, which features the Chan Tea logo running vertically, feels unfinished and lacks visual connection with the rest of the package design. The graphic of the lemon is nice, but if they could consolidate it with the “Green Tea Infusion” graphic and perhaps add a visual for aloe, it might make it more clear as to what is actually inside the bottle. Overall, we think that what’s inside the bottle is great, but a new approach to the visual presentation would make this drink more appealing. Reviewed on: 10/5/2011
