With the pumpkin flavor craze making its way into nearly every food and beverage category, it was only a matter of time until someone attempted to use it in a kombucha. That honor goes to Clearly Kombucha, which has done a pretty nice job with it. Using pumpkin puree rather than pumpkin extract, the product has a flavor that’s quite accurate. Plus, the added pumpkin pie spice doesn’t overwhelm the palate as it does in many of the pumpkin-flavored products out there. That being said, this is a nice tasting beverage and one that doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard to cram pumpkin flavor down your throat (again, like so many others do). While these statements might seem biased, it’s a reality that Clearly Kombucha will experience both the positives and negatives of the over proliferation of pumpkin SKUs. We could say the same about the outside, at least in so far as the company has named the product “Pumpkin Spice.” But we do appreciate that it has taken a visual highroad, keeping the label free of images of pumpkins or other token Fall graphics. Instead, the product lives up to the same standard as their other products. It’s clean, modern, and professional looking, which is definitely a good starting point for any beverage. We like how Clearly has called out the product’s low-calorie count, although we’d suggest making it even bigger. Otherwise, it seems like a complete and well thought out design. Overall, we think it’s hard to be a pumpkin-flavored offering coming to market now, but Clearly Kombucha has done a nice job with both the flavor and packaging.
