Wheatgrass

Product Type:Juice: Coconut Water and Juice; Container: 11.8 oz PET
BevNET Review: Coco Exposed’s Wheatgrass flavor is made with a blend of 88 percent coconut water (from concentrate) and 12 percent juice. Inside the bottle, the liquid, which has a muted green tone, definitely tastes like a blend of aloe vera (with pulp), wheatgrass, and coconut water. There is not added sugar, which keeps the product very light in body (and the calories to 60 per 11.8 oz. bottle), with the juice and coconut water providing the only sweetness and flavor to the drink. The aloe vera pulp, which is suspended throughout, adds a unique and exotic feeling to it. All in all, it’s a nice mashup of a coconut water and aloe vera drink. On the outside, the 11.8 oz bottle looks like something that’s designed to be good for you, with soothing green and white tones to it. However, unless you already know what Coco Exposed is, it’s not immediately obvious what this drink is. Having a six sided bottle is a bit of a challenge and the various ingredients don’t like cohesive elements since each one is on a different panel. Figuring out a way to tie these together would be helpful -- the consumer has to be able to quickly figure out that this is an aloe, wheatgrass, and coconut water beverage. Giving coconut water the main billing and having aloe and wheatgrass as supplemental flavors seems like it would make for broad appeal. Overall, we like the blend that they’ve created and the overall feeling of the brand, but some improvements to the communication of its flavors would be helpful.Reviewed on: 3/5/2012

Wheatgrass

Product Type:Juice: Coconut Water and Juice; Container: 11.8 oz PET
BevNET Review: Using a 12 percent juice formulation that includes coconut water, aloe vera juice, aloe vera pulp, and wheatgrass juice from concentrate, this is the most unique tasting product of the Coco Exposed lineup. The color pours with a bright green that, despite not having any coloring added, looks very artificial. From a flavor perspective, it’s very complex, with notes of aloe and wheatgrass hitting your tongue first. The coconut water appears at the finish, although your mouth can easily be distracted by the aloe pulp, which requires chewing. That said, it’s not the most pleasant drinking experience and we find their aloe vera and wheatgrass (done under the ALO brand) to be more enjoyable. Packaging is an 11.8 oz. PET bottle, which has a matte finished green colored label. The color scheme is too dark to the point where reading the copy on the bottle can be difficult. Further hurting the situation is the choice of type treatment, which makes the letters of “CoCo” very hard to read. Overall, it’s an interesting product, but it’s also one that, in the absence of flavor and packaging refinement, we’d have a hard time seeing be successful.Reviewed on: 4/13/2011

Passion Fruit & Pineapple

Product Type:Juice: Coconut Water and Juice; Container: 11.8 oz PET
BevNET Review: Of the Coco Exposed flavors, Passion Fruit + Pineapple is definitely the most drinkable.. Like the other flavors, it uses a blend of coconut water (from concentrate), aloe vera juice, passion fruit juice, and pineapple juice. There’s a lot going on inside this bottle, with the aloe vera and pineapple providing the majority of the flavor. It’s rather hard to taste the coconut water, although it likely has something to do with the fact that this product is less viscous than other aloe vera drinks. Since there’s aloe pulp, the product requires chewing. That’s an experience that still doesn’t seem in tune with the mainstream American consumer. In our opinion, having a lot more coconut water flavor would make this a more palatable and marketable drink. On the outside, the 11.8 oz. packaging needs a lot of work, at least in the type treatments that are used. It’s really hard to tell what this product is called, with “CC” rather than “CoCo” jumping out at you. Plus, the word “Exposed” feels like something that should be on a “raw” or less complex tasting product. That said, it certainly doesn’t aid the purchase decision. Also, the matte finish of the label feels dull and doesn’t pop the way a glossy label would. Overall, we don’t have anything against the concept of blending coconut water and aloe vera juice, but the execution of this product is missing the mark.Reviewed on: 4/13/2011
