Product Type: Carbonated Soft Drink: Diet; Container: 12 fl oz (355 ml) can
BevNET Review: While this product has many of the same branding issues as its regular counterpart, we do believe that this version has a better flavor. The diet variety is lighter and doesn't have the syrupy body of the original, but it does have a mild sweetener aftertaste. Given the current state of the CSD category, it is our opinion that the diet version has a bigger long term potential than the regular variety -- especially if it performs anything like Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper.

Better than no replacement for the old Diet Vanilla
4 stars4 stars4 stars4 stars4 stars

I've been drinking this as a replacement for the old Diet Vanilla coke, and it's not bad, but I definitely preferred the straight up Diet Vanilla. There's always Diet Pepsi Vanilla which isn't to bad, but for some reason, all varieties of Diet Pepsi make me fill sick to my stomach afterwards and with me that's a rare thing indeed. No idea why, it's always done that as long as I've been drinking diet sodas. Other diet products from Pepsi do not cause the rumbly in my tumbly outside the Diet Pepsi family either which just makes it more strange. I have been buying this as my main diet soda since it came out, but I'd go back to the old Diet Vanilla in a heartbeat if they returned it to the market. (I will most likely switch over to Vault Zero once they start making it available in 2L packaging). As for diet sodas though, it's pretty good, decent and stronger than typical flavor intensity and not too bad in the diety aftertaste but it is still there. Worth a try at least and much like the old Diet Vanilla, it's better over ice than straight from the package. (Oddly enough, I didn't really care for Diet Vanilla Coke when I first tried it but after trying it over ice I was hooked).

interesting...

Out of seemingly nowhere this Coke flavor appeared in my local drugstore. As a fan of Diet Cherry Coke and Diet Coke with Lime, I was intrigued. It's interesting...and I think that, were I still a smoker, I'd really love this soda. Really, this is a smoker's diet soda. It's hearty, as sodas go. Diet Vanilla Coke was pretty horrible (at least compared to the pleasant cream soda-like Diet Vanilla Pepsi...and I hate most Pepsi products, but its Diet Vanilla didn't taste much like vanilla or Pepsi). And Diet Coke with Lemon was like carbonated Pledge Furniture Polish. But every now and again, Coke gets its brand extensions right...as in the case of Diet Cherry Coke, Diet Coke with Lime and, to a lesser extent, Black Cherry Vanilla Diet Coke. Once the initial promotions for this particular product expire, I'll probably return to Diet Coke With Lime, a solid heavy user choice (less subject to tastebud burnout that more obvious flavors like Diet Cherry Coke).

Not great

I didnt hate it , but I didnt love it. After I had it, I really wanted a Diet Vanilla Coke! Maybe ( as with the Diet Dr Pepper version) the cherry and vanilla cancel each other out? And now I read that for now its replacing Vanilla Coke?!!! NOT HAPPY! We went to 3 supermarkets Sunday looking for Diet Vanilla Coke, and I assumed that it was sold out due to superbowl parties, not that it was (shudder) discontinued. BRING BACK VANILLA!! Wont be buying this again.

I really disliked this drink, but more than that, I disliked their entire concept. Maybe I'd have to try the original coke with black cherry and vanilla, but I don't see this drink going far, and I don't see coke making much money off of this drink.

One of Coke's Best Flavored Colas
5 stars5 stars5 stars5 stars5 stars

While I've always prefered Pepsi for flavored colas and Coke Classic for 'cola-cola', Black Cherry Vanilla is definitely one of Coke's best flavored soda efforts to date. I like both versions, but I do think the diet one is especially good, not only because the BCV flavor happens to be very rich and satisfying, but it also has surprsingly little diet aftertaste - the ACE-K works very well in his iteration. Indeed, it does taste to me like the base could be Coke Zero (which I also like very much) as more than a few reviewers have suggested. What I like best about this is that the flavor is surprsingly reminiscent of BCV ice cream and quite balanced: The black cherry may be the prevailing flavor, but I can definitely taste a lot more vanilla here than in Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, which to me honestly tastes mostly like regular Dr. Pepper... PS: It's sad to see Vanilla Coke Dropped for BCV even though I've said more than once that I greatly prefer Pepsi Vanilla.
