BevNET Review: Welcome to 1996, Coca-Cola. Maybe we're having a bad case of deja-vu, but this product is reminiscent of the coffee-cola fad that hit the industry ten years ago. If, back in 1996-97, you ever tried Pepsi Kona, Java Cola, or Cafe Cola this product will definitely have some nostalgia value -- and it will likely remind you why those products all failed in the end. If you are new to coffee-cola, you'll probably wonder why Coke decided to take diet cola -- which isn't exactly known for its smooth aftertaste -- and combine it with coffee extract. The taste of the product is enjoyably sweet and creamy, but the aftertaste is somewhat brutal, with bitter flavors of coffee and aspartame left behind. This being said, Coke Blak is a concoction that will likely appeal to consumers who chase their morning coffee with a mid-morning Diet Coke. Beyond that, it will probably be a curiosity or novelty buy. Judging by the glass packaging -- something that Coke generally reserves for "collectible" products -- we think that Coke knows this as well. There's also the issue of the branding, which we think will be confusing for people that aren't in the industry. The name "Blak" and its tagline ("carbonated fusion beverage") don't give the consumer any sense of what this is and the word "coffee" is hidden deep in the fine print of the ingredients label. On the positive, this product seems to have a much lower risk of cannibalization than prior cola-based extensions. This may generate some media buzz and help consumers find it, but we don't think that the flavor and brand are strong enough to generate lasting volume that will be material to Coke.

My Morning Bottle of Coffee

This drink can be a bit intense for consumers who either want soda, or coffee. If you are interseted in a refreshing blend of the two, this sure does its job. Very enjoyable in the morning, just hope it stays on the shelves. Final Analysis: Who can resist fizzy coffee?

What?

This taste like someone poured coffee in my fruity pebbles. If it didn't have the fruity pebble taste in it, I might buy it more often. It didn't make it into my top 10 list. But it is in my P25 though.

Coke Blak won't bring in the green.

This seems to be a classic case of love it or hate it. I'll admit I'm not a big fan of unsweetend coffee but I thought I might like to combination. I was wrong. Just doesn't do it for me. Lousy after taste was the key factor. It seems like those that like it are really over the top but I can't believe they are a large enough demographic to make it a hit.

Not bad

Me and my brother got a couple of these in Seattle thinking it was like extra caffeinated coke or something and were surprised with the coffee taste. It wasn't too bad, I'd drink it again if someone gave me it or the store was out of Monster energy drinks lol.

Blak as in Jazz?

Ok. So we have Jazz Diet Pepsi. And we have Blak from Coke. Well I can certainly see where the names mean nothing as to what's in the packaging but the flavor is what counts. Coke Blak to me is very drinkable. Coffee in the morning chased by a Coke Blak a couple hours later and you are set to go. The coffee flavor in Blak is distinct. The Coke flavor is also prevalent. So what if Pepsi Kona was a flop. Maybe Pepsi didn't market that drink smartly. Then again maybe the USA wasn't ready for it. Well we are sure ready for it now. I find the aftertaste very light. It does not bother my taste buds. I actually like it. Coffee does tend to be a tad bitter so I think Coke has hit the nail on the head. Give them credit. They come out with a product and keep pushing it until we cry uncle. Coke Blak should suit people who like cold coffee in the morning. Just sip it slowly as 8 oz tends to go quickly.

Tasy, different, overpriced

I paid $6 or so at Albertsons for a 4-pack. I think it is tasty, I love coffee and Coke Classic, and they go well together. The price was exorbitant, and the packaging wasteful and foolish. I won't buy again unless they tone down the packaging and price. I liked the 8 oz serving size. I used one bottle and a scoop of good vanilla ice cream to make a great float.
