BevNET Review: Rather than going with strawberry flavored milk, which always has an artificial taste to it, Crave takes a different approach and added strawberry flavoring into their chocolate milk. The result is something that’s much more palatable and unique, with rich and enjoyable strawberry and chocolate flavors. The drink is otherwise very similar to its all-chocolate counterpart in terms of nutritional content and packaging. The only thing that has changed is the accent color, which is now crimson instead of black, and a strawberry image in place of the chocolate square on the other variety. That said, we think that this flavor has a stronger visual presence than the Chocolate Milk does. Overall, we appreciate their unique approach to what is always a low point for flavored milk brands. BevNET Review: Crave is a full calorie chocolate milk that comes packaged in a shelf stable aluminum bottle-can. What’s inside the bottle is rich and decadent, with a chocolate flavor that’s on par with our typical mainstream chocolate milk. Probably the best comparison for this product’s taste and consistency is melted chocolate ice cream. Nutritionally, this product has 340 calories, 12g of fat, 12g of protein, 3g of fiber. While the fiber and protein content is definitely a plus, we suspect that some consumers will be turned off by the calorie and fat content. Packaging is the product’s best attribute, with a design that is clean and fun, but also effectively communicates what the product is about. The use of an aluminum bottle can makes it stand out, while being shelf stable certainly helps as well. While the name doesn’t explicitly say dairy or chocolate milk, it’s definitely more memorable than being named after a farm (as most dairy products are) and their efforts to make it seem fun are a nice change from images of cows and barns. Overall, as far as full calorie chocolate milk beverages go, this is a solid choice.Reviewed on: 6/27/2012
