Playoff Punch

BevNET Review:
Crayons gives its spin on another classic sports drink with their fruit punch entry, Playoff Punch. Like their Lemon-Lime effort, Crayons has done a good job of creating a better tasting formulation than the mainstream brands. The product, which has only 50 calories per can, is surprisingly big on flavor, but has just the right amount of sweetness. Added vitamins are a plus, but really this product is going to succeed (or fail) based on its unique approach to the market: appealing to kids. That being said, the smaller format is nice, but we're not sure how the 8 oz can (aka "the energy drink can") will work, especially since it's not re-sealable. Either way, if it's kids that they're after, we think that they've created a product that will satisfy kids and parents alike -- assuming the brand pulls them in.

Breakaway Berry
Category: Sports Drinks: Sports Drink; Packaging: 8 oz can

BevNET Review:
Breakaway Berry is, as the name suggests, a berry flavored entry. Unlike the other flavors of the Crayons Sports Drink lineup, this one isn't one of the "classic" sports drink flavors. However, it's still good, delivering a lightly sweetened body with an enjoyable berry flavor. The addition of electrolytes and vitamins is certainly a plus, but the product doesn't totally feel like a credible sports drink. Mainly, there seems to be something missing in terms of the packaging, with the Crayons logo eclipsing the other items on the front of the can (most important being the words "sports drink"). Overall, a nice tasting product, but we think that "sports drink" should be a bit more prominent on the front of the can.
