Looking at the bottle of Daily Greens’ Berry Tasty Half Pint, we were expecting this to be the company's take on the ubiquitous strawberry banana smoothie. After all, this product, which is billed as a kid-friendly product and is priced at $3.99, seems to be going for a mainstream buyer. Fortunately (we say that because the world doesn’t need another strawberry banana smoothie), that’s not the case. Instead, this product is a loaded with berry flavor (blackberries or blueberries, “depending on availability”) and has no banana. As a result, the body of the product is only slightly viscous, which appears to be simply from the strawberries and blackberries/blueberries. Also in the mix are apple juice, lemon juice, spinach, and beets. Those latter two ingredients are clearly there for their health benefits rather than flavor. And you’ll really have to try pretty hard to find these flavors in the mix. That being said, this product feels well-positioned to land the consumer, be it an adult or a parent purchasing for their child, who wants to upgrade their beverage to something healthier, but doesn’t want to drink full on beet juice. Packaging, which is a colorfully designed 8 oz. bottle, is a good position from both a price ($3.99, as mentioned earlier) and portion (70 calories per bottle) perspective. We also like how it manages to have its own identity, but also feels like an extension to the Daily Greens line. In many ways, we feel as though this product has a better shelf presence than its primary juice line. All in all, we really like this product and what it offers to the category.
