BevNET Review: Doc Zola is one of those products that's going for the Dr Pepper knockoff space, which has been flooded by countless products such as Dr. Thunder, Dr. Sparkle, and Dr. Smooth (there are even web sites dedicated to tracking them all). In any event, this product is good, but not as good as the real thing. In Doc Zola's case, the only noticeable difference is the design of the label, which has a slightly aggressive but offbeat and cool look to it. We'd compare it to what brands like Mountain Dew did to citrus, adding a different type of personality in an effort to break the mold of all the me-too products in the category. While it may look different, it doesn't look "better", which will ultimately make Doc Zola a likely player in the value priced segment of the category. If they moved it into another package format and punched up the ingredients (maybe do what Red Bull Cola did for cola), it might have some legs. Overall, Doc Zola is an enjoyable, but not overly memorable product that has some clear areas for growth if it wants to avoid being just another me-too product.Reviewed on: 12/14/2009
