BevNET Review: Of the two Drink Chia flavors that we sampled, the Strawberry Citrus variety was the one that we preferred. The reason is simply a matter of the strawberry and lemon flavoring pairing better with the chia and helping to mask some of the stevia flavor. Otherwise, these drinks are identical, with the same sugar and stevia blend that has been enhanced with chia seeds, vitamins, potassium, and zinc. Packaging is also the same, which is to say that we think it needs some visual polish before this drink is truly ready for prime time. BevNET Review: Drink Chia’s Honeysuckle Pear is a stevia and sugar sweetened product that has a mild fruit flavor reminiscent of neither pear nor honeysuckle. This seems to be the result of the stevia (which has a very distinct flavor) and the chia seeds, which add a unique chew to the body. While it certainly would hurt the sugar and caloric content of this product, we’d definitely enjoy it more if it were exclusively sugar based. We might think otherwise if this product were zero calorie, but at 40 calories per 8 oz., we’d be okay with it being increased. Nutritionally, the product has 880mg of omega-3, antioxidants, 1g of protein, 2g of fiber, and added vitamins. Packaging is a smallish-looking 8 oz. bottle, which is fully wrapped with a rather busy design. As it currently stands, the product’s design feels more suitable for drugstores than grocery or convenience, which is fine if that’s what was intended. However, it is still in need of cleanup – it’s not even entirely obvious what the brand name is and the “!” at the end makes it visually look like “chai.” Overall, it’s a decent product, but improving the flavor and design would go a long way.Reviewed on: 7/28/2011
