Hibiscus Tea

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Of the Emma’s Deity lineup, this is definitely the most mainstream flavored product, if for no other reason than the fact that hibiscus tea is a flavor that has been around for a while. In the case of this particular product, they’ve still infused it with their own unique spin, adding clove, cinnamon, lemon, and palm sugar to the mix. These ingredients cut the naturally floral flavor of the beverage with some spice and a splash of lemon, resulting in something that’s smoother and more enjoyable than straight up hibiscus tea. On the outside, they’ve put their best foot forward, with a clean looking label that’s easier to read and more appealing than their other flavors. Prime placement of the USDA Organic logo is a plus, although they can probably eliminate the redundant “Certified Organic Text.” In addition, cleaning up some of the wording on the front panel would definitely make for a better looking product. Overall, this is an enjoyable product that’s likely the most marketable of the bunch.Reviewed on: 9/14/2010

Red Rosebud

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Red Rosebud Tea was the final flavor sampled of the Emma’s Deity trio. While it’s definitely not a bad offering, our concern is that it’s too close in flavor and perception to the Hibiscus Tea variety. The biggest difference is in the sweetness, which is noticeably lower than the Hibiscus offering. The result is a more muted floral flavor, but its flavor is still primarily a floral style flavor: rose. They’ve also added cloves, anise, and vanilla, which gives the product some depth of flavor. However, we still don’t think it’s enough to differentiate from the Hibiscus variety. We’d say the same again for the outside of the bottle, which has a red colored label. Overall, this is a good product, but it’s stuck in the shadow of the superior Hibiscus variety. Reviewed on: 9/14/2010

Ginger Lemon Tea

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 oz Glass
BevNET Review: What’s inside this bottle isn’t really tea, but a USDA Organic certified mixture of cassia bark (aka cinnamon), lemon (juice and oil), ginger root, water, and palm sugar. While it has some tea-like qualities, the product’s flavor is actually much more unique and innovative. The base of the product has a mellow, but slightly spicy, cinnamon and ginger flavor that stays smooth and balanced thanks to the use of palm sugar (which has a slight molasses note). The lemon juice and oil give the product a slight citrus flavor, but it lacks that citrus bite that is typically found in lemon-flavored teas. To us, this product is a very enjoyable alternative to tea or herbal tea products, with a complex flavor that still manages to feel relatively light in the mouth. Packaging is a standard 16 oz. bottle and a standard paper label. They’ve done some things right, like calling a lot of attention to the fact that it’s organic and has a low glycemic index. On the other hand, the aesthetics could be improved upon, with lots of different type treatments and a multicolored gradient background. The result is something that doesn’t have close to the same shelf presence as the products that this brand will compete with. Overall, we really like what’s inside the bottle, but the design of the label is something that needs an overhaul.Reviewed on: 9/14/2010
