BevNET Review: ExtraWater's "Energy Drink Light" is a caffeine free — that's right, caffeine free — energy drink that was created with the intention of helping you avoid the "ups and downs" of energy drinks. Namely, the crash and the bad taste. So how did they do? Well, on the taste front, they've created something that's better than "classic energy" flavor, but it's far from the best tasting energy drink out there. We'd sum it up by describing it as something that drinks like a blend of flavors rather than one thing in particular. It's definitely not a flavor that's worth calling out as smooth or enjoyable. Functionally, the product is basically a standard energy drink without added caffeine. It contains B vitamins, taurine, inositol, ginseng, ginkgo, and gaurana. They are right that it doesn't have the crash of a traditional energy drink — but it also lacks the buzz. We bet that consumers who pick this up will be pretty disappointed with the performance of the drink, especially since there's no mention of the drink's caffeine free formulation on the front of the package. So how about that package? The 16.9 oz. fully wrapped PET bottle that they've chosen is just a head scratcher, as is the mundane and confusing name of the product. For starters, they've used the word "Light" with no explanation, which will likely leave consumers thinking that this product has reduced calories (it doesn't). And the aesthetics of the design are far from appealing, with a slapped together look that doesn't appear to be the work of a professional designer. Overall, this drink is so far off that it's honestly hard to make constructive suggestions other than to start over. Sorry ExtraWater. Reviewed on: 11/29/2010
