The Hibiscus variety of Foodies Cider blends apples, water, hibiscus, oranges and mint in a cold-pressed and high pressure processed (HPP) formulation. Like the rest of the lineup, this product is heavy on the apple flavor (it is, after all, a cider). Since the company cut it with water, the product is not super sweet or overly tart. The addition of hibiscus and orange give it a nice secondary flavor, but we can’t taste the mint. Hopefully they’ll put more in in the future -- it would round out the flavor quite nicely. In addition, it might be nice if there were more hibiscus flavor. The back of the bottle touts “10 whole flowers in every bottle,” which is clearly meant to sound like a lot. However, the hibiscus flavor is quite light. On the outside, the product comes in a 12 oz. cylindrical bottle that looks and feels like an HPP juice. Mentioning cold-pressed on the front of the label is smart, but we’d also like to see a mention of the product being HPP as we think that this is starting to mean something at retail. Otherwise, it’s visually appealing, but it’s not overly clear what the brand or flavor name are. Foodies should at least address the branding concern as this product will compete with other more strongly branded products. Overall, very nice taste, but we feel as though it needs a better shelf presence.
