BevNET Review: Following in the footsteps of the other Frubob flavors, Mango blends fruit juices (apple and mango) with fruit pieces (mango cubes) to create what they describe as a "natural fruit float." While the flavor of this drink will likely be familiar to anyone who has ever had a mango nectar, the apple flavor that hits your tongue leaves something to be desired. Furthermore, the promise of fruit pieces floating in the drink is a letdown on this flavor ? the mango cubes are almost fully dissolved, leaving nothing more than a tiny amount of puree to the product. On the outside, the 8.4 oz. bottle is modern looking and the design is playful and bright. However, the positioning of the drink is confusing ? is this for adults or kids? Why does one want fruit pieces in the drink? Answering these questions -- and making it VERY obvious when you look at the bottle -- would significantly improve this product. BevNET Review: Of the four initial flavors that we sampled from Frubob, the Strawberry Banana flavor was the one that we found to be the most enjoyable. Still, it’s a drink that seems to need improvement both in flavor and positioning. The flavor of the drink relies heavily on apple and banana juices, while pieces of strawberries float throughout the drink (after vigorous shaking, that is). It’s very sweet (23g of natural sugars and 120 calories), with the sweetness overwhelming your palate quickly. The murky color of the liquid is somewhat off-putting, while the strawberry chunks are so soft from the pasteurization and processing that they are hardly identifiable. On the outside, the product has a visual appearance befitting a kids drink – but that’s not their target demographic (at least we don’t think it is from looking at the product). The concept of a fruit float is novel, but there seems to be something missing in the brand’s messaging. After all, why does anyone want fruit pieces floating in their drink? They need to explain that to the consumer. Overall, the concept itself is interesting and unique, but they need to take it further to make this something that is highly marketable to the US consumer.Reviewed on: 8/11/2011
