Frutzzo Yumberry

BevNET Review: Made with a blend of yumberries (nee myrica rubra, yangmei, or bayberry) and agave, this product delivers and original flavor that is flavorful and enjoyable. The flavor of this berry is not that far off from what we see in some of the other "healthy" fruits that are popular as of late, such as pomegranate. There's a tart berry flavor to it that finishes up with a very slight bitter flavor. They've sweetened it with agave, which gives it a crisp natural finish and allows Frutzzo to state that it has no added sugar. Frutzzo has a beautiful design to its bottle, which works well with its super premium image. The biggest -- and most obvious -- question is whether or not the name "yumberry" is something that will appeal to the American consumer. From our point of view, it sounds a bit hokey, but then again, it certainly sounds better than myrica rubra. Overall, great execution and taste -- but long term market potential is a definite unknown.Reviewed on: 11/9/2007

BevNET Review: Yumberry with Blueberry delivers a slightly lighter "yumberry" flavor than the 100% variety, but it fails to deliver strong enough blueberry flavor. Looking at the ingredients panel, there are a variety of flavors that have been added in addition to blueberry and yumberry, including apple, pineapple, pear, elderberry, and organic flavorings. We certainly don't question the quality of the drink -- and the flavor is actually quite enjoyable -- but we'd still like more blueberry. Otherwise, we think that Frutzzo has done a superb job crafting this product's flavor and packaging. Reviewed on: 11/9/2007

BevNET Review: Yumberry with Pomegranate is our favorite of the lineup. First, there is the flavor, which delivers a distinguishable note of pomegranate on top of the base yumberry flavor. The result is something that's tart and sweet, with just the right amount of balance between the fruit flavors. Second, there's the packaging and branding, which, using the ever popular pomegranate, has a leg up on the others in terms of marketability.
