Ginger Lemonade

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 12 fl oz
BevNET Review: Made with a 100 percent organic blend of water, lemons, agave, and ginger, this product is a very fresh and wholesome-tasting product. Using high pressure processing instead of pasteurization, Genesis Organic is able to leave the flavors as close to the raw ingredients as possible. As far as the taste goes, this product has a very tart lemon flavor, a hit of sweetness, and a pretty heavy dose of gingery spice. That said, this product is definitely more of a spicy lemonade than the refreshing summertime classic that lemonade typically is. You’ll definitely have to sip this one slowly. Visually, the 12 oz. slim PETE bottle is a fine container, but the product’s label is at odds with what’s inside the bottle. Specifically, the container looks more like a functional product than the refreshment beverage that it ultimately is. Having the words “active enzymes” doesn’t help, especially since it is never explained or mentioned anywhere else on the label or the company’s website. Focusing on making something that is appealing to the senses and whets the appetite would help. Overall, what’s inside the bottle is amazing. We just wish that the packaging lived up to the same standard.Reviewed on: 7/16/2012

Hibiscus Cooler

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 12 fl oz
BevNET Review: Unlike other products in the Genesis Organic line, Hibiscus Cooler isn’t a fruit juice, but an herbal tea. In this particular case, it’s a 100 percent organic blend of water, hibiscus, peppermint, lemongrass, and agave nectar. The flavor is rather heavy, to the point where we’d like them to add some water to it. Otherwise, we like the combination of flavors, with the mint and lemongrass adding a nice complement to the floral flavor of the hibiscus. The use of agave is a good move since the drink targets the natural channel, although it seems to add a slight thickness to the drink’s body that we could live without. Finally, the high pressure processing seems less important in this flavor --it’s much harder to actually taste the benefits or understand why heat is bad when making herbal tea (which is often consumed hot anyway). Packaging is again the weakest part of this drink, with a design that will probably make some consumers expect a kefir or kombucha drink rather than a refreshment beverage. We’d start by significantly cutting the amount of text on the package, but an effort to make this product whet the palate with some better graphics would help as well. Overall, a good product, but its packaging seems like the most limiting factor. Reviewed on: 7/16/2012

Strawberry Lemonade

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 12 fl oz
BevNET Review: Genesis Organic’s Strawberry Lemonade is a high pressure processed (as opposed to pasteurized with heat) 100 percent organic mixture of water, lemons, strawberries and agave nectar (for added sweetness). Using fresh pressed fruit juices (along with the high pressure processing) results in flavors that taste extremely fresh, with the lemon and strawberries being the only flavors in the mix. As far as strawberry lemonades go, this variety definitely has a pretty strong strawberry flavor. Dialing this down a bit would make it taste more like a lemonade in our book. Still, the quality of the fruit flavors is exceptional and that will definitely keep consumers coming back for more. On the packaging front, we were a bit let down, with a text heavy design that feels like overkill for something as simple as strawberry lemonade. Adding more graphics and reducing the text would be a better approach, in our opinion. Overall, a very solid product.Reviewed on: 7/16/2012
