Gize +

Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

The calcium-rich, gold-filtered mineral water is one of 30 mineral waters from outside Germany and the only one from North America to have been officially certified as a natural mineral water. And Gize is available not only with or without carbonation (Sparkling or Still), but also in four exciting flavours in the Gize + range.

Raspberry Ginseng

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 12 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Part of Gize's "Mild" line, Raspberry Ginseng is, as the name suggests, a raspberry flavored water that has been enhanced with ginseng. The product does, like the rest of the Gize line, utilize gold filtered mineral water from Canada. Gize would like you to believe that gold filtering creates better water, but it's not something that can be seen or tasted. Still, this drink is nice tasting, with water, fruit flavor, and fructose creating a non-carbonated drinking experience that's mellow and smooth. Really though, it's the packaging that makes this product, with the smallish glass bottle (it's 200ml or about 7 ounces) having a very chic and visually appealing look. Overall, we really like what Gize has done with this product — it is the best executed flavor of the brand.Reviewed on: 12/21/2010

Lemon Elderflower

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 12 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Gize's Lemon Elderflower is part of its "Mild" line, which means that the product has flavoring and a light amount of sweetener (fructose). The product is built on the same base of Canadian gold filtered mineral water, which has a very clean and smooth mineral taste to it. From there, they've added lemon and elderflower flavorings, which, unfortunately, we think that they've overdone. The flavor is very sharp and pretty much smacks you in the face. For a clear product, one that has under 30 calories, this is very unexpected — dialing it back would be a good idea. On the outside, we really like what they've done with the 20cl glass package. Both the shape of the glass container and the design of it are well executed. If we have any concerns, it's for the drink's name, which, for some reason, sounds funny when it rolls off your tongue. Overall, we like the concept and its visual execution, but we'd like a little less of the added flavoring.Reviewed on: 12/21/2010

Pineapple Coconut

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 12 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Of the Gize flavors that we sampled, this is the only one that has color (albeit from juice) to the liquid. It's also the only one that has added caffeine, which is what makes it earn its "Intense" sub-branding. Inside the bottle, the case of this drink is gold filtered mineral water, natural fruit sweetener, and 12 percent juice, which is actually a mixture of pineapple and orange. While they probably could have stopped there (we think they should have), they added coconut flavoring, which ultimately hurts the product's flavor by adding something that tastes candy-like rather than natural. Pineapple orange might sound less exotic, but nailing the flavor should take higher priority. Also, they've added caffeine and guarana extract, although they do not disclose how much caffeine is in the product. On the outside, the product has the same curved 20cl glass bottle as the other Gize varieties. In this case, this biggest difference is the lack of a clear backdrop, which has been replaced by a yellowish orange hue from this flavor's fruit juice enhanced formulation. It looks really nice — although the "gold filtered" part of the equation seems a bit unnecessary (at least in terms of its space on the front panel) with the flavoring that's inside the product. Overall, a very nice looking product that would taste a lot better if they removed the coconut flavoring. Reviewed on: 12/21/2010
