BevNET Review: Mixing goji and apple is a combination that we haven’t seen before, but it was one that we expected would taste pretty good. Were our suspicions correct? Yes. The sweet flavor of paradise apple juice tastes very much like traditional apple juice, while the goji juice gives the product a tart note that also has an exotic feeling to it. Combined, the two flavors work nicely together, although it’s a mixture that’s definitely on the sweet side. Packaging is just like the Goji & Pomegranate flavor, with a pear-shaped glass bottle that is eye catching and attractive. They’ve differentiated this flavor by using gold lettering instead of silver, which makes it relatively easy to distinguish between the two. However, we question how marketable a goji and apple mixture will be compared to the goji and pomegranate flavor, especially since this variety has a higher calorie count and more sugar. If nothing else, it’s certainly going to make for an uphill battle for this flavor. Our bet is that the other flavor will outpace this variety at a significant rate. Overall, it’s a nice tasting product, but cutting goji with something as pedestrian as apple juice (even if its paradise apple juice) is going to be a tough sell. Reviewed on: 8/24/2009

BevNET Review: From a flavor point of view, this product tastes like exactly what is advertised – goji and pomegranate. It’s sweet, but tart, with the two fruit flavors delivering a balanced taste that should be enjoyable to most consumers. Plus, the pomegranate juice also hides the somewhat bitter finish that goji berries are known for. This mixture also touts itself as having high levels of vitamin C (25 percent rda), beta carotene, and antioxidants. We found it to be a pretty refreshing product and one that’s definitely well executed compared to competing products. The packaging is the more unique and innovative aspect of the Gloji lineup. The pear shaped glass bottle is eye catching, with a sophisticated look that also feels nice in the hand. With its minimalist style and somewhat hard to read type treatment, the Gloji logo could certainly be improved upon. Plus, it has a rather sterile and emotionless feeling to it, which is not going to help the brand compete against more hip and healthy looking brands. Fixing that as well as more clearly stating what the brand is all about would help this product along. Still, we really love the bottle and that alone will probably get this product some shelf space.
