Root Beer

Product Type: Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 12 fl oz (355 ml) glass
BevNET Review: While switching to cane sugar is certainly nice, there’s something about Goose Island’s newly revised root beer that left us scratching our heads. Inside the bottle, this naturally and artificially flavored product tastes decent, but isn’t overly memorable. It’s pretty much a middle-of-the-road flavor, with cane sugar not making up for the relatively flat root beer taste. On the outside, they’ve removed the signature Goose Island logo and replaced it with a new design. This seems like a huge mistake, having removed the product’s personality and replaced it with a boring design that seems more appropriate for a store brand or private label. In our opinion, this product has taken a huge step in the wrong direction, removing the brand and adding in cane sugar. We’d gladly drink the old formula with the old label — this one we’ll have to take a pass on. And we think consumers will, too.

I've been looking for Goose Island Root Beer for years and it has finally made it to New York! Reminds me of the root beer I used to drink in the 70's

Not what it was

I discovered Goose Island Root Beer eight or nine years ago and praised it to one and all as the best root beer ever...but very difficult to find. After several years, I found some more today...and it's changed. Very much for the worse.

I agree!

I instantly noticed the taste difference. And it's terrible. My favorite moment: I emailed them asking why-oh-why did they change the recipe? The woman who responded said they hadn't. When I emailed her the difference in ingredients on the label, she never wrote back. Nice. Way to ruin a brand.

Not So Great

This root beer has a cough medicine taste, so if you like that, this is the one for you. I don't like that, so no good for me.

I was pleasantly surprised. Not overly sweet, the cane sugar blended the flavor in real well. This is a very good root beer. Will definitely buy more.

Best Root Beer

This is the best root beer I have tasted in a long time. It is not too sweet and tastes just right. It reminds me of the root beers of my youth in Pennsylvania. I would recommend it to anyone.

Mild and Smooth

Goose Island makes some pretty good beers, so it is nice to try a root beer from them. It is on the mild side and fairly sweet, and the flavor is definitely reminiscent of a drive up root beer stand. Very smooth and refreshing. It just begs to be served in a frosted mug.
