Manufacturer's Brand Overview: [Edit]
Finally, a "good for you" energy drink that tastes great! Revered for centuries by South Americans as the "drink of the Gods" and consumed to ensure health, vitality, and longevity, yerba mate triumphs as nature's most balanced stimulant. The leaves of the rainforest mate tree contain 24 vitamins and minerals, 15 amino acids, potent antioxidants and natural caffeine providing a nourishing boost of clean energy. Each new Guayaki Yerba Mate Organic Energy Drink contains caffeine comparable to coffee; however, the stimulation is balanced by mate's natural nutritional content. As a result, drinkers feel a sustained energy and clarity of mind. Yerba mate is known to aid digestion and is used as a supportive treatment in weight-loss programs. In honor of the Guayakí people, native to the mate forest, we bring you Guayakí Yerba Mate: organic, fairly traded, and sustainable. Drink it with heart and feel the power within!

Pure Heart: A Raspberry Revolution Blend
Category: Tea: Alternative; Packaging: 16 oz glass
BevNET Review:
From a flavor point of view, this is an extremely enjoyable flavor that they've done a good job of executing. Let's start with the flavor. There are nice mate and hibiscus flavors, which have been perfectly combined with raspberry and cranberry juices/flavors before being sweetened with sugar. All of these ingredients work in harmony, delivery a drink that's well balanced in terms of the herbal and fruit flavors. Packaging is good, but we don't think the name "Pure Heart" tells you what the drink is (perhaps "Pure Raspberry Heart" would work better?"). Otherwise, the imagery gives the drink credibility as a super premium organic beverage -- which is exactly what it is.

Pure Endurance – Citrus Stamina Blend
Category: Energy: Regular; Packaging: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review:
While Guayaki has been tried at times as an energy enhancing sports drink, this is the first attempt to add electrolytes to the caffeinated herb. It doesn’t quite go off like clockwork, as the tangerine and acerola juice comes out tasting like a thin, artificial product despite its organic origin. We think it’s an interesting idea, but not likely to break through in this form. The label, with its vicious-looking cheetah and earth tones, is nicely colored but we’re not sold.

Pure Mind – Pomegranate Clarity Blend
Category: Energy: Regular; Packaging: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review:
Well, we wouldn’t say we felt much purer of mind than we did caffeinated when we slurped our way through this, but we did feel like the Guayaki team has done a pretty fair job of cutting the at times earthy, ashy taste of the Yerba Mate with a mint blend that gives it a nice, stomach-settling, mint tea flavor. The addition of pomegranate juice is very subtle and has little impact beyond adding a fruity note – with pomegranate awareness at an all-time high, chances are they went a little too far by calling it out as an addition. Still, it does a pretty good job of taking something this exotic and making it palatable to the mainstream. The purple and yellow label may be a bit much, but it certainly pops.

Pure Passion – Passionfruit Kundalini Blend
Category: Energy: Regular; Packaging: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review:
This Mate blend is as good as any we’ve tasted, with a hint of sugar and passionfruit and peach extracts creating a sweet, exotic flavor that’s as close to a soft drink at this product gets. We think there’s a lot of synergy between the exotic Mate and the tropical passionfruit, although there’s a very silly label here with some kind of odd, evil serpent snaking his way across the Edenic garden on the front. Still, with the red highlights, it’s nice looking. Lose the snake and we’ve got a winner.

Unsweetened Mate
Category: Energy: Regular; Packaging: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review:
This is a very pure, not too ashy-tasting Mate that we found quite refreshing. The flavor is something like an iced tea, only slightly earthier, but the main ingredient did not overpower the clean finish of this nicely brewed product. We don’t know how ready the world is for an unsweetened Yerba Mate, but those who seek it out won’t be disappointed by this.

Empower Mint
Category: Energy: Regular; Packaging: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review:
A nice mix of Yerba Mate and tea, including rooibos and mint, that really work together nicely. This “organic energy drink” is slightly minty and slightly sweet, like a faded mint gum, but it does a great job of waking you up and it’s only 78 calories for the whole darn bottle. And the bottle itself isn’t bad, a nice, basic yellow label and a clean glass widemouth style. Pretty good alternative for tea lovers who need to wake up.

Traditional Mate
Category: Energy: Regular; Packaging: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review:
This “Organic Energy Drink” certainly provides a good bit of energy – a half-bottle and we were wide awake. And it’s a mildly sweet, herbal and not-too-grassy tea, but one that, unfortunately, smells like burned rubber plants. And that’s not pleasant. But it’s in the de rigeur 16-oz. glass widemouth organic tea bottle now, with a stripped down label that shows the earth encircled by herbs, which is nice, and it’s also pretty low in calories – only 39 per serving. Still, it should only be tried by real Yerba Mate fans.
