Hansen's Natural Cane Soda

BevNET Review: Branded as a "Limited Edition" product that is sweetened with pure cane sugar, Hansen's The Grove seems to be nothing more than a citrus flavored soda. Not that there's anything wrong with that: it's quite tasty. Still, it's rather odd to try and make a seemingly pedestrian product like this into something unique. Releasing it to bloggers first (that includes us, apparently) doesn't really change much in our mind. The product, which contains no juice, is sweetened with natural flavors with extracts of California and/or Florida limes and lemons, U.S. strawberries and yumberries. Still, it tastes pretty much like a classic lemon lime soda, albeit one that's very clean and crisp. The packaging is, at least as far as Hansen can-based products go, attractive and capable of whetting the palate. It also creates a sense of curiosity, with loads of fruit images and conceptual name in place of the standard call-it-what-it-is style that Hansen's normally uses for its products. However, we don't think we're alone in feeling a bit let down by what's actually in store inside the can. Overall, it's a very well done lemon-lime CSD, but, from the looks of the outside of the can, we were expecting something better.Reviewed on: 6/21/2010
