Hiball’s mocha-flavored coffee offering is a blend of cold-brew coffee, milk, sugar, cocoa, and several ingredients that are more commonly found in energy drinks such as B vitamins, guarana, and ginseng. All of this combines to create a product that has 120mg of caffeine (more than a standard energy drink), 140 calories, 25g of sugar, 6g of protein as well as modest levels of B vitamins and calcium. As for the flavor of the product, it’s a well-executed version of a ready to drink mocha-flavored coffee. It’s relatively milky and sweet, with the coffee as more of a secondary flavor. That said, the use of cold brew seems like something that is not used to its full potential. Increasing the coffee flavor and reducing the milk and sugar content would make it seem more authentic and perhaps differentiate it from what’s already out there. Differentiation of flavor is, more than anything, really where we think this product could be improved upon. On the packaging front, Hiball has done a great job with the look and feel. The product is playful and approachable, but stays true to the Hiball brand. The front panel is easy to understand and polished looking, which is always a plus. However, we found the type on the back of the can to be very difficult to read, which appears to be a printing issue. Overall, this is a solid coffee and energy hybrid that can definitely hold its own with the competition.
