Review: Sugar Free High Voltage Energy Drink

Posted: Apr 05, 2004 at 12:00 AM (Last Updated: Apr 05, 2004 at 8:15 AM)
High Voltage Energy Drink is a sugar-free energy drink that's made with 10% fruit juice (pear, from concentrate) and features only 2 grams of carbohydrates. The additional sweetness comes from the use of Splenda. The flavor of the product was formulated with the assistance of the inventors of Slurpee and Orange Julius, so it's not really much of a surprise that the flavor has a somewhat fruity citrus-like taste to it. Overall, the flavor is decent, but an aftertaste from the Splenda can still be tasted. Our real issue with this product is the packaging. We can't decide if it looks generic or something like a product you would expect from a GNC / Vitamin Shoppe. Regardless, we don't think it has what it takes to grab the consumer's attention away from the tons of other products that are out there. Perhaps with a can redesign, but definitely not without.
