Hockey Soda Energy is a fairly standard tasting citrus flavored energy drink that’s from the same mold as Mountain Dew. The product is sweet and slightly syrupy (it uses high fructose corn syrup), while an energy drink bite hits your tongue on the way out. It’s a drinkable formulation, no doubt, but not something that’s original enough to go out of your way for based on flavor alone. However, the hockey theme is certainly something that hasn’t been used too much when it comes to beverages. In this case, they’ve used an old school goalie mask, which in this day and age is probably known more for its appearances in horror movies than pro sports. That being said, it’s hard to tell if this branding is meant to be serious or lighthearted. The black and blue colored design is clean looking, although we’re not sure why they opted to put both “soda” and “energy” on the front of the panel (it begs the question, “which is it?”). Overall, Hockey Soda Energy is a decent product that has a unique niche, but they need to refine their messaging and further flesh out the concept if they hope to build a real brand out of it.
