Half and Half (half tea, half lemonade) has been around in ready to drink form for the better part of two decades, but Honest Tea’s entry still manages to bring something new to the party. In this case, their “just a tad sweet” approach makes it feel new again. Honest Tea’s Half & Half drinks very much like something that you’d make at home, provided you had Fair Trade Certified organic black tea for the base flavor, while lemon juice and lemon extract provide the sharp lemon flavor. The sweetness is very restrained (about 24 g of sugar per bottle), but sufficient, and it does a good job of cutting the natural sourness of the lemon. All in all, Honest has done a great job creating something that’s clean, refreshing, and homemade tasting. Packaging is, just like the rest of the Honest PET line, a 16.9 oz. PET bottle. The label design is appealing to the eye and easy to read, with their signature “T” taking center stage. Overall, while this is more of an opportunistic move than one of innovation, Honest Tea has hit the nail on the head with execution, making for a drink that could certainly help further bridge the gap between premium RTD tea and the mainstream.
