BevNET Review: The folks at Honest Tea are hopping on the unsweetened train with this smooth organic black tea in a 16-oz. glass bottle. The tea tastes just fine, with almost no astringency and very little of the brackishness that unsweetened bottled teas occasionally carry. There aren’t any nasty particles at the bottom, it’s quenching, calorie free, and even has some caffeine. But the packaging is so minimalist as to look generic. Just a tiny photo of hands in a barrel of tea leaves on a faded light blue label. Jazz it up, guys. There’s not a lot of sell here. Technically good, but doesn't excite us.

Somewhat resembling the "Honest Tea Just Green Tea" in that it doesn't really taste like properly brewed tea, the black tea is similar in that the flavor isn't particularly dark and doesn't hold much resemblence to the kinds of teas you might make at home. There's some sort of added non-tea flavor that seems to hide what real black tea smells and tastes like. There is a claim of natural flavors to "balance acidity" and perhaps this is the crux of the problem. Though, in some way, the taste seems a little fermented or oxidized. Perhaps this is due to the bottling or pasturizing process or using a vat of old leaves to brew?

The review given to this tea is a bit off. The packaging is done intentionally to showcase the simplicity of the tea. Just Black Tea is the best tasting black tea on the market.
