Hype Energy Drink

Hype Energy Drink

Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

Hype Energy was first launched in 1994. The original company was led by HARD ROCK Cafe's founder Mr. Barry Cox, which was later purchased in mid 2000 by a business group led by former Formula 1 racing driver and Le Mans winner, Bertrand Gachot. Since then it has obtained huge growth since the initial launch of its Hype Energy flavor.

Organic Energy

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 250 mL can
BevNET Review: Hype’s Organic Energy is a USDA certified organic energy drink packaged in a green, silver, and pink 8 oz. can. The product is a straight translation of Hype’s original flavor, which is very much your “standard” energy drink flavor. Aside from that organic certification, there’s otherwise no benefit or point of difference for what’s inside the can. While that sort of approach is working quite well with food products, it has yet to happen in the energy drink category. Packaging is decent, but feels conflicted, with the big and bold “Hype” logo not meshing well with the “organic” background. It looks like it might appeal visually to a health and natural consumer, but we unfortunately wouldn’t say the same about what’s inside the can. The simple reason for that is that the energy drink category has several other competitors offering organic formulations with both better flavor and cooler looking packaging. So for Hype, we think they’ll need to do more if they wish to have an organic energy drink that’s very successful. Reviewed on: 1/7/2010

Hype energy shot MFP flavor

Product Type:Functional: Energy Shot; Container: 2.5 fl oz
BevNET Review: Hype’s “MFP Flavor” shot is a 2.5 oz. energy supplement that features a pleasant citrus berry like flavor. Like so many other shots, the fluid is pretty viscous and non-carbonated, which makes it an easy shot to consume quickly. It has a moderate amount of sweetness (from sugar and sucralose), a sweet and sour flavor, and a mild aftertaste. In terms of energy, it has definite kick, using a blend of caffeine, taurine, B vitamins, ginseng, guarana, and glucuronolactone to provide the product’s functionality. Packaging is clean and attractive, with a nicely designed front panel that looks more appealing to the eye than many other shots that are out there today. Plus, Hype is a name that feels like an energy product, but doesn’t have that aggressive or medicinal vibe that can often be off-putting. Overall, a well done entry from Hype.Reviewed on: 3/18/2009

Hype Energy Shot Marionberry flavor

Product Type:Functional: Energy Shot; Container: 2.5 fl oz
BevNET Review: The Marionberry flavor of Hype’s Energy Shot line is a pleasant tasting drink that’s sweetened with sugar and sucralose. The fruit flavor is very much on par with a cranberry flavor, delivering sweet and tart notes that make this shot very easy to consume. There’s a fair amount of kick to this shot, with caffeine, taurine, B vitamins, ginseng, guarana, and glucuronolactone as the functional cocktail. They don’t disclose how much caffeine is in the drink, but based on flavor profile, we’d guess that it’s in the 125mg – 150mg range. Packaging is a white 2.5 ounce bottle, which, based on the almost exclusive use of black bottles for this style bottle, makes the product stand out. So does the metallic label, which gives the product some extra pop amongst its sea of competition. Overall, this was our favorite of the two Hype Energy Shots – and one that we’d certainly reach for again.Reviewed on: 3/18/2009

Enlite

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Diet; Container: 250 ml can
BevNET Review: Hype's Enlite variety is an energy drink that features a somewhat standard looking energy cocktail that has been sweetened with high fructose corn syrup, ace-k, and sucralose. The result is a drink that has only 10 calories, but still maintains a moderately natural sweetness and only a mild aftertaste. Between the pink color of the can and fluid and the floral backdrop that covers the package, it seems like this would likely be a drink targeted at the female consumer. Overall, the combination of enjoyable taste and clean packaging are a plus, but Enlite seems to lack anything that really stands out, especially given where the category is today. MFP Energy

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 8.3 fl oz
BevNET Review: Hype’s MFP, which apparently stands for “Most Full Power,” is an energy drink whose biggest asset is the clean and modern design on its can. The flavor is pretty run of the mill, with a bubble gum / berry flavor that isn’t terribly pleasant to drink. The branding of “MFP” is rather meaningless, especially since the acronym isn’t explained anywhere on the can. Plus – and we simply don’t understand this – the “most powerful formula” has what appears to be a standard amount of caffeine (80mg). Overall, we’re sorry to say that this is a relatively unimpressive product.Reviewed on: 3/5/2007

Hype Classic

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 8.3 fl oz
BevNET Review: Hype Classic is the new version (not old) of Hype Energy Drink. Featuring a great combination herbs (including ginseng) and other potent ingredients (guarana, taurine, & caffeine), this product is one that will definitely give you a boost. Not to mention that it is packed with vitamins -- including 25% RDA of Vitamins B1,B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, E,C, Folic Acid and Biotin. Finally, it actually tastes great -- which is more than we can say about a lot of their competition. Overall, a great energy drink that is definitely worth a try.Reviewed on: 11/29/2004

Hype Energy X2

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 500 ml (16 oz) can
BevNET Review: We've always liked Hype's light berry-citrus flavor and now that it has been put in a 16 oz can, we figured it's time to take another look. Using a formula that contains fruit juice and is sweetened with sugar, Hype X2 has the same great cotton candy-like taste as the original. The addition of the 16 oz can is quite nice and the "X2" name gives the product a look and feel that works. Also, in a category of this size, we definitely appreciate the clean and minimalist design of this product. Overall, we like it a lot -- good looking and a formula that one can actually consume quite easily. Reviewed on: 10/8/2003

+ Show Product ReviewHype Lite

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 250 ml can
BevNET Review: Hype Lite is a good translation of the original Hype berry flavor, but with many fewer calories and carbs. This product uses a blend of sugar and aspartame which results in a flavor that still has a "regular strength" taste, but significantly fewer carbs. However, it's not a sugar-free so only time will tell if there are consumers seeking a lighter energy drink but still willing to have some sugars and calories. As for the taste, this product has a sweet but mellow berry flavor -- very similar in style to Hype original but will lighter strength. Overall, a good addition to the Hype line -- the only thing we are left wondering is if the word "Lite" will make people think that the product has less energy. Regardless, this is a product that we would definitely recommend. Reviewed on: 8/26/2003

BevNET Review: Night Boost is a peach flavored energy beverage. The peach flavor gives the beverage a sweet bite, but we still found that the peach flavor could use some improvement (it's just not sweet enough). The beverage is, however, highly energizing and somewhat refreshing. Overall, it's a good beverage, but the peach flavor could use some improvement. Reviewed on: 5/31/2001
