Unlike Izze’s original drinks that were flavored and sweetened with fruit juice, this variety is sweeted with sugar and flavored with flavoring. As far as birch beers go, this one is, unfortunately, not one that we’d reach for again. While there is a decent dose of birch flavor to the mix, there isn’t enough. Worse is the product’s finish, which has a sour note to it that’s rather unpleasant compared to other birch flavored beverages. That being said, we’re really not sure what Izze is going for with this product, especially since they’ve given it the color of apple juice. Clear colored and more crisp/minty birch (see Foxon Park) would have made more sense for this brand. And on the appearance front, that apple colored liquid makes it look too similar to some of the other Izze flavors (like Sparkling Apple, of course). Overall, it doesn’t seem like a bad move for Izze to create a sparkling birch flavored drink, but the execution and positioning of the drink don’t make a lot of sense to us.
