Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear Lemonade

BevNET Review: The Lemonade Mint flavor of Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear beverages comes packaged in a massive 23 oz. can (just like the other flavors in this brand). While it’s admittedly a little overwhelming for us (we could probably get through a third of the can at most), the product delivers as promised: it tastes like lemonade with mint. To us, mint and lemonade are a combination that should have pretty universal appeal, so it’s a logical flavor to have as part of this (or any) lemonade brand. Their rendition pairs high fructose corn syrup, sucralose, and acesulfame potassium as the blend of sweeteners that provide the sweet backdrop to the drink. They’ve also added lemon, pear juice, and honey, which you can definitely taste as you continue to drink the product. As far as the actual lemonade flavor is concerned, we’d say that this lemonade is good, but not great, with the pear and artificial sweeteners getting in the way of the lemon and mint flavors. Again, we think it’s too big, but it’s certainly a format that has worked for AriZona (the marketer of this drink). Visually, it’s easily identifiable as a part of the Jack Nicklaus brand, but there’s something that seems disconnected between the image of the golfer and the thoughts of summertime that are inevitable when drinking lemonade. And that’s ultimately what makes us wonder just where this flavor -- and the brand as a whole -- will be able to carve out its niche. While it’s good, it’s certainly less appealing than AriZona’s very successful Arnold Palmer brand. Reviewed on: 12/19/2012
