BevNET Review: The second flavor of Jamba’s Daily Superfruit Shot that we sampled was Acerola + Caja. Flavor wise, it’s best described as having tart peach and orange notes. It’s refreshing and easy to drink to the point that consuming only one ounce is somewhat difficult (we could probably drink right from the bottle). That said, this doesn’t feel like a shot the same way that the other two do. Designed as a “Vitamin C Booster,” this variety contains vitamin A, vitamin C, and beta carotene. Packaging is the same 16 oz. bottle as the other two varieties, but with a red gradient backdrop and images of an acerola cherry and a caja fruit. While these aren’t the most recognizable fruits out there, it still does appeal to the senses. Overall, we really like the flavor of this product, but we can’t help but wish that this was a single serve product instead of a shot.Reviewed on: 3/15/2011

BevNET Review: Of all the flavors, this one definitely feels most appropriate for a shot-based product. Cupuacu, which is a cousin to cacao, imparts a slightly bitter chocolate-like note with a recognizable citrus finish. The mango, along with added pineapple juice, gives the product a very distinguishable tropical flavor. It’s drinkable enough, but we were content putting it down after our 1 oz. serving. Functionally, this product contains 40 mg of natural caffeine (from yerba mate and green tea extracts) per shot (it also contains B vitamins and vitamin C), making this a legitimate alternative to other caffeinated products that are out there. Packaging is similar to the others, but with a yellow backdrop this time around. Compared with the other products, which use stronger colors and more recognizable fruit images, we think that this one needs a little bit of work. Overall, a good concept, but some tweaks in the execution would be helpful for this product.Reviewed on: 3/15/2011

BevNET Review: Pouring with a heavy, syrupy consistency, Jamba’s Acai Daily Superfruit Shot is a tart and potent product that is designed to be consumed in 1 oz. shots (that’s 16 per bottle). From a flavor perspective, there are heavy notes of acai and apple, resulting in a cherry-like tartness. However, since this is designed to be consumed in 1 oz. portions, it’s pretty hard to really get a sense of the flavor (unless you consume more, like we did). This product also has a fair amount of grit, which is presumably the acai pulp that is contained in the drink. The only other thing to note about the liquid is its intense purple color, which will stain skin and anything else it touches. Functional benefits are focused on antioxidants and omega fatty acids, the benefits of which are rather diverse. Packaging is a 16 oz. bottle with a full wrap label and a matte finish; it feels nice in your hand. From a design perspective, the use of the Jamba brand is hard to miss, but the packaging is otherwise somewhat busy. Our only gripe is the cap, which is both easy to miss (since it’s wrapped) and somewhat impractical (are many people really going to wash it and reuse it?). Overall, we like the forward-thinking concept and the use of the Jamba branding, but what’s inside the bottle isn’t the most memorable acai drink that we’ve ever had. Reviewed on: 3/15/2011
